2k16 Brings 1k to Lady Destroyers By: RJ Mitchell

Jackie Von Itter, a leading force for the Lady Destroyer’s basketball team, dominated this season with scoring 1,000 points for her team, reaching a significant milestone in her basketball career that very few can boast of.

Jackie has put in a tremendous amount of hard work to reach this goal and she explains that she could not have done it without the coaching staff or her teammates. Jackie states that the people who support her through her ups and downs are her family, friends and teammates.

“My teammates have constantly pushed me all through these years and have pushed me to be the best player I could be.” Jackie attributes her success to the team.

After reaching this milestone in her career Jackie feels “A sense of relief and definitely a sense of pride”, but the next step for her and teammates is to win a sectional championship. Although Jackie is a 1000 point scorer, she doesn't focus solely on herself and her accomplishments. “It’s about the team's success not my own. I simply tell myself I need to contribute in whatever way my teammates need me to.” To Jackie, basketball is something she takes seriously explaining that “Basketball is a fast paced, exciting, competitive game and my teammates make it all the more fun”.

As a senior, and throughout her high school career, Jackie has played both basketball and soccer. After graduating high school, she plans on continuing a career not in basketball but in soccer. When asked about continuing basketball Jackie stated that “Unfortunately not, I have decided to continue my career in soccer instead.” Jackie plans to attend a D3 school in which she can not receive a scholarship for her athletics but will be receiving an academic scholarship that gives $16,000 per year. Although she has been thinking about attending Marywood University, she has yet to commit, but she plans to major in Athletic Training in college.

After a very successful season, Jackie feels indebted to her teammates. “I’d like to give a shoutout to my amazing teammates whom I've had the pleasure of playing with since the 3rd grade. I wouldn’t want to reach this milestone with any other group of girls. I'm excited and ready to move on with the rest of our season and accomplish things no other girls team has ever accomplished.”
