Many researchers suggest that playing games can teach children those things that can’t be taught by books or teachers. But who thought that one day playing games will be responsible for death of children! The Blue Whale Game also “Blue Whale Challenge”, is in its myriad form is such a game spreading across the world taking lives of several innocent children.
Basically, it is a game that is claimed to exist in several countries. It began in 2013 in Russia with “F57”, one of the names of the so-called “death groups” of the VKontakte social network and allegedly caused first suicide in 2015. The game was developed by Philipp Budeikin, a former psychology student who was expelled from his university. According to him, the main idea behind developing such game was to remove those people from the society who he deemed were of “no value” to the society.
Blue Whale is played in a 50-day period in which players have to complete various tasks given by their respective curators like cutting the lip, stand on the edge of terrace of a high building for hours, wake up at 4;20 a.m. and watch horror videos, climbing a crane, poking a needle to the arm or leg and many more. Some people say that this game was downloaded using social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram or by downloading the app from Internet. Also, a number of hashtags like #bluewhalechallenge, #curatorfindme, #i_am_whale act as signals for anonymous creators.
Though Budeikin was arrested and pled guilty to inciting at least 16 teenage girls to commit suicide, but the game is still present to harm innocent beings. It has also been linked to self-harm trends and “Human Embroidery” in China. Death trends have increased like anything in past 1 year. Hundreds of suicide cases in countries like Russia, China, India came into limelight.
Several measures have been taken by Governments of different countries and big groups to eradicate this game from Internet and prevent further deaths caused by its havoc. Tencent, China’s biggest internet portal, closed 12 suspicious Blue Whale network groups. The Government of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology came forward to remove all links related to this game.
From my point of view, there is no one in this world having “less value” than others. Some fickle minded fools try to gain popularity by doing strange things. Sometimes these people cross limits to such an extent that it harms life of others. Taking lives of others for the sake of “cleaning” the society is not at all a manly trait.
