How was your break and what did you do?

This past Christmas break was long and necessary to rest up my mind to get ready for the new year and semester. WHAP has taken a toll on my sleep and I am often exhausted at school from WHAP and PreCal mainly. Over the break, I played tennis and hung out with my friends, worked on Euro Challenge with Sabrina and Tyler, watched TV, ate ALOT of food, and slept. I worked on my WHAP homework even though it wouldn't be due till much later on because spring tennis season is about to start and because I have all day tournaments, I won't have much time or energy to do it. My mom and I hung out and shopped over the break as well and it was so much fun. I love perusing through clothes, shoes, bags, and stationary at Target. I went to play tennis with Chloe and Brandon a lot and seeing their faces make happy. They always know how to cheer me up when I am down and make me laugh till my guts hurt. My family and I went to Fredericksburg and spent the day in their downtown and it was beautiful. They had small stores every where filled with vintage, knick-knacky things, restaurants, and gourmet chocolates. Overall my break was very fun and it was a wonderful way to end 2016.

What is the most trouble you have ever given your parents? What is the most enjoyment you have ever given them?

The most trouble I have ever given my parents was when I was in my preteen years (about 10), I had just enter middle school around this time so I had just started to develop new friends. This was also my "rebellious" stage because I was old enough to have homework and responsibilities, but I was still fairly young so I would rush through my homework without care and I would lie to my parents about small things such as eating tons of candy and etc. I was a well behaved kid overall because I knew what was right and wrong and I followed rules, but I would disobey my parents here and there over small things. My mom was very strict on lying even if it was over small things because she knew that in the future during my teenage years as I gain more freedom such as driving, I could lie about bigger issues if she didn't stop me. The most joy I have given my parents is being very ambitious with my school, piano, tennis, and anything I do. They don't have to constantly nag me to do my work and as I have gotten older, my work ethic gets better and better. They know that I always try my best on every assignment and activity I complete. I also help my parents especially my mom a lot. My brother is younger so I always take care of him when my parents are busy and whatever my mom needs, I will do it for her. Also, because I have gotten older, I understand my mom's frustration and her troubles more so I help calm her down and think of solutions. We have also gotten closer and we go shopping and spend time together that we both enjoy.

Does writing help you express your feelings?

Writing can express my feelings depending on what it is and how intense I feel about the situation. I like to write my feelings down because I know that I will go back and reread what I wrote and learn something in the future especially if what I am writing is hard to think about initially. If I am angry, sad, or happy, writing down how I feel seems like an inconvenience at first, but in the end, I like to go back and look at how I have changed after I have emerged from the hard times.

What dream can you conceive? Can you believe it? Can you achieve it?

I dream of being happy with an amazing family with two kids and an amazing husband, a job that I am successful in, wealthy, and to spoil my parents. I also dream of going to Yale or Columbia as my dream universities, but in Texas, UT. I want to major in business management/finance. I also want to graduate valedictorian and ace my SATs as well as being NHS president. The closes dream I have at the moment is to win the EURO challenge at my school and move on from state. I believe that I can achieve these dreams because of my work ethic and ambitious personality. Once I set my heart on something, I will stop at nothing to accomplish my goal.

January 17, 2017

How do you decide if you like someone? How do you show interest in them?

It doesn't take much for me to like someone because I get along well with most people. They have to have good morals and respect and treat others well. For me there is a difference between me liking someone and for me to want to befriend them. I will befriend a person if they are individualistic and have a unique personality. Most of the times it will include humor, loyalty, honesty, and respect for others and their culture and background. I will show interest in them by attempting to make plans to hangout with them or by talking to them and asking questions about who they are. Usually with people that I like, I will feel encouraged to converse for a long time because I will usually find that person extremely interesting and we will talk for hours.

Have you ever "passed on a kindness"?

I have "passed on a kindness" many times whether it's at school with people I know or with complete strangers at HEB or SAM's Club. At school, I often go to my math teacher, Mr. Tenorio, for help and he shows me patience and kindness in taking his time to help me understand the math problem fully. Later on that day, I have friends who don't understand the problem either so I pass on the kindness by helping my friends and showing them the same kindness that Mr. Tenorio showed me. Another time was when I was Costco and that day, I had been showed kindness so when an elderly lady dropped a pile of clothes on the floor, I picked all of it up and she was extremely happy.

January 25, 2017

Who is your biggest fan?

My biggest fans are my parents because they are always putting all of needs before theirs and supporting my every decision. If I ever have a problem, I go to them and explain what my problem is and they try to help me even if they can't. Especially for school, they do push me extremely hard, but they trust me to take care of everything that I need to for example, grades, extra credit, and more. Their support means more to me than anything else. In tennis, that's is my domain and they don't push me at all there because I push myself the hardest. I am extremely competitive and my parents support me with clothes, rackets, supplies, and encouragement. These are just a few of the reasons why they are my biggest fans.

January 27, 2016

What do you love most about yourself? What do others love about you?

The trait I love most about myself is my ambition because the fire I light when I want to achieve something is unwilling to die until I reach my goal. My drive and determination is why I usually do well on the things I am passionate about. My mentality is why would you do something if you aren't going to try your best, meeting your goal half way is the same as not meeting it at all. The trait the others love about my is my smile and out going personality. I am still shy deep down to my core and I don't like to step outside my comfort zone, but as I have gotten older, I have gotten a lot better at conversing with strangers. I am not nearly as I shy as I used to be and I have more of a leader type of personality than a follower.

January 30, 2017

Which of your senses is the most important to you? What would you do without it?

The sense that is most important to me is the ability to touch and feel. This is because everything I do requires for me to use my fingers and hands to complete them. For example, piano, tennis, school, band, and etc. I couldn't live without doing the things I love and without touch, I wouldn't be able to with touch. If I didn't have the ability to feel and touch, I would find a way to develop my other senses and make them as strong as they could be. Nothing would be able to compensate for my loss of touch, but at least I would be able to see and hear what I can't feel.

February 1, 2016

How do you see yourself? How do you think others see you?

I see myself as shy under unfamiliar situations especially when I don't know what is going on. I am insecure about how I look at times and even though I don't care most of the times, I will care sometimes. I see myself as strong and someone who has been through a lot and even though I am an extremely happy person for the most part, I will breakdown when no one is there. I am a very high stressed person and I have to work very hard to be in the position I am in today. Others perceive me as "perfect" or "smart" and some people perceive me as ugly. Others think I am a naturally outgoing person which I had to work on to be as outgoing as I am today. I am not perfect even though I a, usually good at what I do. That is because I work insanely hard when I delve into an activity such as piano, violin, flute, school, tennis, and etc. I make good grades, but they come at a cost. I already have a very hectic schedule and the very little time I have left is dedicated to my extracurricular activities. I rarely have time to just hang out with my friends because I am so busy in my extracurricular activities and school work.

February 3, 2016

Do you treat people as they are, or as they ought to be?

I will treat people as they are if I don't know them well or if their behavior is just on an average level. Some strangers and friends will go out of their way to act extremely courteous and polite. Some people that I meet at tennis tournaments will go out of their way to treat me extremely politely or have amazing sportsmanship, I will treat them as they ought to be and go out of my way. I will also go out of my way and treat my friends as they ought to be because I know that they would do the same.

February 6, 2017

How were you taught to tell the truth?

One of my mom's biggest pet peeves is when my brother and I lie to her no matter how insignificant the lie is about. She says that once we start lying about small topics, they can snowball into bigger issues as I get old and more used to lying. I was taught to tell the truth 100% if it doesn't involve anyone else's businesses or feelings. If it is about me, I need to be honest for the most part unless the issue is extremely personal and I can't share it. If it is about someone else, I can soften the truth to spare someone's feelings. In addition, If there are rumors going around and another person tries to get information out of me, I can fib about that. It depends on the situation, but my mom raised me to be a good judge of when and how to tell the truth.

February 8, 2017

Have your parents ever practiced "long division" on you and your friends?

My parents have never practiced "long division" on me and my friends because they trust me to make good decisions and take care of myself which includes surrounding myself with good people. They never had a need to transfer me to another school because of the people I associate with nor force me apart from my friends. I have had questionable friends and friendships, but I took myself out of the situation and now I am with a group of friends who are the best I can ask for. They know my passions and my priorities and understand me from inside out. I am also responsible, trustworthy, and reliable and my parents are aware of that fact.

February 10, 2017

When has a friend opened up a whole new world for you?

A friend opened up a whole new world for me in middle school when she taught me to laugh at myself and be my comfortable in awkward situations. She helped me become more confident in expressing my emotions and helped me grow a sense of ignoring what other people thought of me. I used to be extremely insecure about what others thought of me and because of that, I never got a chance to show my true self. When I met my best friend, she made me feel comfortable in my own skin and because of her, I never hide who I really am.

February 13, 2016

What is the most important advise you have ever received?

The most important advise that I have ever received was to take more risks and always go into my task with a positive mental attitude. I am the type of person who likes to stay inside my comfort zone. Unfamiliar circumstances make me feel awkward because I don't like being out of control and not in knowledge of what is going on. I used to be extremely shy and I wouldn't introduce myself to new people, but over the years I have developed more of a leadership type of personality because I have forced myself to get over most of the shyness that I used to have. I also believe that when I have a positive mental attitude towards what I am doing especially in a competition that seems inevitable to win, I usually end up reaching my goal because the positivity makes me try harder and increases my determination.

February 15, 2017

What was the stupidest thing you have ever done? Did someone persuade you to do it?

The stupidest thing I have ever done was putting my phone in my lunchbox which had a heavy glass container. I didn't realize that the blunt force of the glass would push on my phone to create the most hideous crack over the screen. No one persuaded to do so because I am not easily peer pressured. Also, the only reason I stuck my phone in the lunchbox was because I was rushing and I didn't want to reach to put my phone inside my backpack because my lunchbox was a quicker option.

February 17, 2017

How was your day?

My day has been extremely stressful because I have so much homework. Because of all day tennis tournaments, in addition of tons of homework, I am also missing important lessons and classwork. I can't wait for spring break because it will give me a break from school.

February 22, 2017

What do you wish you knew then that you know now?

I wish I would have known that high school was going to be extremely stressful. I thought I could stay with all of the competitions and events for piano, but I had to drop some. Tennis has become intensely busier and it will be worse next year because I will probably and hopefully for it. The classes I am taking this year are much harder than classes from freshman year.

February 24, 2017

Have you ever decided to leave someone behind? How did it feel?

I have decided to leave someone behind when I was running late and my friend was taking a while. Although it isn't a big deal, I felt horrible because I felt as if I was being selfish by ditching them by themselves. For this reason, I rarely leave people behind if I can help it for example at tennis tournaments, when any of my friends use the restroom especially at night, I always go with them and wait and they always do the same.

February 27, 2017

What is the most frightening thing that has happened to you? How did you live through it?

The most frightening thing that has ever happened to me was the summer of 2016. My grandma had just finished receiving her chemotherapy and gotten a shot of white blood cells. This makes her body extremely weak and tired. She still went to the market with me because that's one of my favorite things to do in NY and when we sat down, she started to have seizures. I had to call 911 and at the time, I had no idea what was going on. My body was racked with sobs and I felt helpless. I have never ever been that terrified in my whole entire life currently.

March 1, 2017

Have you ever received an anonymous gift? Have your ever given one? How did it feel?

I have not received an anonymous gift, but I have received gifts from my friends and family members. It feels amazing to receive gift especially when I don't ask nor expect any because it makes me feel loved and special. The fact that they put thought into spending money to make me happy makes me grateful and appreciative for them. I haven't given gifts to anonymous people, but I have given gifts to my friends when I didn't tell them I would. Seeing that surprised happiness on their faces is worth every penny I have. Seeing them happy makes my day light up.

March 3, 2017

What do you try to do "perfectly"? What happens?

I try my best to do everything as best as I can because what's the point of doing anything if you aren't going to do it well. The subject I prioritize over everything else is school so I try to make my grades as perfect as I can get them. This causes me to stress out more than a teenager should because I have a lot of extracurricular activities such as piano, band, and tennis. Because of tennis tournaments, I miss a lot of school because that last more than twelve hours. I am constantly sleep deprived and exhausted because my body doesn't have a chance to fully relax.

March 6, 2017

What is the best thing you have seen teenagers do lately?

The best thing I have seen teenagers do lately is go after what they are passionate at and excel. Prodigies are so fascinating to me whether it is in fine arts, school, technology, etc. It blows my mind how mere teenagers are doing what many people could never do in a lifetime because they have raw talent for what they love. I aspire to have that much passion for an activity because it is hard to stay dedicated to something especially if you don't start out with the same advantages as everyone else.

March 10, 2017

What are your Spring Break plans?

My plans for spring break are inconclusive as of this moment. My family wanted to take a trip to Disney World in Florida because we have never been there, but it was more of an idea than a plan that was going to be put into action. I am not sure if we are going to take an actual vacation, but personally my plans for spring break are to relax and get a head start on my WHAP homework. I like to take advantage of breaks because when school starts again, I lose a lot of sleep because of how much homework I have.

March 20, 2017

What did you do over spring break?

Over spring break, we decided to actually drive to Florida as I previously speculated and we left Saturday morning at 10. It was a 16 hour drive and on the way there, we took two full days and the morning of the third day. We visited Universal Studios Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios Florida, Disney World Magic Kingdom, and Disney World Epcot.

March 22, 2017

Do you know anyone who has made a major change in his or her behavior for the better? What caused them to change?

I have a friend who recently came out and became more comfortable with himself. He is more confident with who he is and has accepted his personality and embraced everything he has to offer. He isn't as shy anymore and because he knows that he has supportive friends, he feels accepted and loved despite the haters who will always be there. I proud of him because now he truly be himself and doesn't feel the need to hide anything,

Any topic of choice

I am really excited for this upcoming week because I get to do my favorite activity in the whole world, playing tennis. I have after school practice Monday through Wednesday till 5:30, Thursday I have to take the English two STAAR, and Friday I have a match against Wharton after school and Saturday, I have matches against two schools. Wharton has amazing tennis players and I am really excited to play them because playing excellent players is so much fun! I get to hang out with my friends constantly and that is the only thing I love more than tennis.

March 29, 2017

What is the best thing you have ever written? What is the best thing ever written to you?

The best thing I have ever written was an essay for a book I read for English this year. We had to write an analytic thematic essay over the summer project books, in my case was the Purple Hibiscus, and I felt the most confident on that essay than any other essay. The best thing someone has ever written to me was from my friend Christian Herrera. He is truly a big brother to me and I admire him to the extent that I aspire to be like him. He wrote a thank you note to me during thanksgiving and I have never felt more appreciated. Saying thank you and telling someone how you feel is one thing, but taking time to physically write a note is different. His note helped me through a sad part of my life and gave me courage to fight my tears for that period of time. I am genuinely a happy person and an optimist, but that was the worst time of my life at this point.

March 31, 2017

Any topic of choice

The STAAR test was fairly easy, but the process of sitting there for five hours and reading boring passages is exhausting. I had finished with about one hours and fifteen minutes left so I tried to sleep, but for some reason I can never sleep during testing days or at school. I am just happy it is over with.

When have you needed a friend most? Was someone there for you? When has a friend needed you? Were you there for your friend?

My grandma recently past away and one of my closest friends, who is a senior and feels like a brother to me, was there for me. He would let me cry to him over the phone no matter how busy he was while he calmed me down. During school, he would always hug me everyday and ask to make sure I was okay before resuming to whatever he was doing. After school, regardless of how many times he was invited to go eat with our friends, he would stay behind with me in tennis till my mom picked me up. I would tell him to leave because I didn't want him staying at my expense. I was there for him when he was falling in love with someone, but had his heart broken. He had never felt that about someone so he was demolished. I would be there for him, let him rant, let him cry, etc.

April 5, 2017

What is the balance of your personal bank account? Are you rich or bankrupt?

I think my bank account would be pretty well off because I do more good deeds and rarely break promises or genuine do mean things. I like to think I am generally a nice and kind person. I am sassy, but only to my friends and I am always joking if I make a joke somewhat "mean." I hate liars so that means I rarely ever lie or break promises.

April 6, 2016

Have you ever made a resolution? What was it? When did you make it? Did you follow through with it? What resolution do you want to make now?

Usually I make goals more than resolutions for the new year because I find it slightly annoying that the excuse of a new year is the motivation/excuse to postponed the goal you can start this moment. One goal I made that I was extremely happy to achieve was this year for euro challenge. My goal was to advance to the regional round and my group accomplish that goal. I felt so happy and victorious.

April 10, 2017

What is the secret of your success? What is the one thing you do that makes you successful?

The secret to my success is my love for winning against myself and achieving personal goals. The one trait that makes me successful in what I do is my ambition and determination. If I set my heart on something I want to achieve or learn, I will most likely learn it to the best of my abilities and probably do well. For example, I really wanted to learn to play the violin so I practiced all the time and I moved up to the top level of class within two to three weeks.

April 12, 2017

For whom can you make life less difficult today?

I can make life less difficult today for my best friend, Sabrina Tankersley. She didn't come to school because she is sick from this weather and decided to stay home. She also cares a lot about academics so I am going to collect her missing work for her from all of her classes and explain the instructions to her as well as giving her any notes she missed. This is less trouble for her because she won't have to stress about going to all of her teachers and bothering them for notes and etc.

April 17, 2017

Do you pretend to be someone or something that you are not? Why?

When I was in elementary school, I had a big obsession with being "popular" which meant I had some friends that weren't good for my influence. I would pretend to like certain things that I didn't or say really mean things to people to seem "cool." That isn't me at all because I don't like to judge others based on personal traits. I decide if a person is good by how that act and their personality.

April 19, 2017

How are you unlike any other person? What makes you unique and different from everyone else?

April 21, 2017

What unhealthy habit would like to break? Have you already tried to break it? How?

One unhealthy habit that I would like to break is eating when I am bored. Usually on the weekends when I am doing homework, I get into a very snacky mood and eat everything in sight. I have tired to break it by listening to music or watching TV to distract myself. I also tend to take phone breaks during homework which slows me down, but I have gotten tremendously better at limiting myself to just a couple of breaks every couple hours.

April 24, 2017

Are you carrying around "barnacles" in the form of mistakes, regrets, and pain from the past? How could you let go of these burdens.

I am definitely carrying around regrets and mistakes from the past that are weighing me down. The biggest one is that I wished I would have talked and spent more time with my grandma who past away fighting against lymphoma. She lived in New York and I visited her every here and there, but never often. We would face time every once in a while and call, but I would say that I have too much homework as an excuse to watch TV or because I didn't feel like talking. That is probably my biggest regret because besides my mom, my grandma from my mom's side is the person I love most.

April 26, 2017

Have you ever been "burned" by a bad experience? Has a bad experience ever transformed you and turned you into a new person?

I have been burned by a bad experience and it was the time that I left a simple and probably the easiest WHAP homework at home even though I had finished it two days prior. I even helped other students and friends complete the assignment. The morning it was due, I was going to double check to see if it was in my backpack, but because I was running late, I skipped checking my backpack and left for school. When it was time to turn in the homework, i rummaged through my belongings and realized it was at home because I took it out to help others the night before. Usually homework for WHAP is extremely long or difficult and that was the easiest assignment of the year. Also, my teacher doesn't except anything after the first few minutes of the beginning of class. I couldn't turn that assignment in and I had to do an alternate assignment that I could score a maximum of 70 points when in reality the homework assignment was an easy 100. The alternate assignment took my ten times longer than the homework assignment. After that experience, I always double check my backpack the morning of the due date and make sure I have it in my backpack before I walk out the door.

Tennis Banquet

Last night I attended the tennis banquet at Embassy Suites with one of my friends, Tyler. He knows a lot of my friends in tennis and he sometimes comes to hit with me despite the fact that he plays soccer not tennis. We received awards, ate dinner, dessert, and took pictures with the seniors as well as our other friends. I expected to cry, but surprisingly I didn't because I was really excited and happy for the whole night. Of course I felt twinges of pain because I love the seniors, but I don't think it has hit me that some of my best friends are leaving. We took the cutest pictures and I

Is there anything you hate doing, but you do it anyway because it makes you a better person? What is it?

One thing that I don't hate, but wish I didn't have to do was exercise not in terms of tennis. Playing tennis and running while playing tennis is extremely fun for me because I am focused on that one ball and that one ball only. I don't realize that I am breathing hard or that my heart is thumping against my chest frantically. I hate running miles and bleachers because I am conscious of how tired I am which slows me down and my mind tricks me into thinking that I am more tired than I actually am. Exercising and conditioning builds stamina, increases my mental strength, and makes me a better tennis player.

What situation in your life requires win-win thinking?

The situation in our lives that require win-win thinking are the scenarios where it seems impossible to achieve. Without a positive attitude and mentality towards your goal, you are already defeated because you will have lost that flame of motivation that pushed you towards your goal in the first place. I have ha many opportunities in my life where people have told me that I couldn't accomplish a certain task and instead of letting that get inside my head, I turned that into motivation to prove that person wrong.
