Notes from the President May 13, 2018

Hello Falcon Families!

Happy Mother's Day! Congratulations to our graduates, and thank you to all who joined us to celebrate!

Important District Information

Spring/Summer Term

Our Spring/Summer Term starts tomorrow, May 14th. Please note that Spring/Summer college courses do not start until the following week. There are a couple of items to note regarding our final term of the 2017-2018 term.

Early College Schedules

  • Schedules are currently being updated as college courses are solidified.
  • Please be mindful that students may have overlaps/gaps in their schedules for this week only due to the week transition between our term start and the college's.

Summer Intervention

In order to best support our College Preparatory students academically and socially/emotionally, we will be adjusting our Flex Block to be intervention specific beginning Monday, June 11th.

  • Students will be dismissed daily at 3:30pm and our faculty will be holding core academic interventions. Teachers will communicate recommendations to both students and parents weekly.
  • This will provide students consistent core academic intervention, and an additional time to enjoy during our summer months.
  • Parents that would prefer their student to stay for the intervention hour, or are unable to arrange for transportation at 3:30pm, please know that all of our faculty and staff will be present. There will be space and faculty support for students wanting/needing to stay until 4:30pm.

Healthy Food Options

We will begin an important transition this term. We will be working on transitioning our snack options to healthier choices to support our whole child movement. The physical health of our students is just as important as strengthening their minds. Please see a letter from Miss Melissa Shaw outlining our initial changes starting this first week of our Spring/Summer term.

College Preparatory Update

We are excited to kick off our Spring/Summer Term! We have been thoughtful of scheduling this term to try our best in providing students more choice in electives while also maintaining core academic instruction based on student progression. We are excited to see approximately 20 of our students progressing into Early College course work! We are also excited to see approximately 60% of our students progressing past proficiency in all core academic areas!

We plan to increase our efforts in providing academic intervention on a daily basis to ensure our students are supported and challenged to work towards mastery! We will increase these intervention offerings beginning Monday, June 11th. Our students will be dismissed at 3:30pm and core academic intervention for small groups will be offered for the last hour of the school day on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Wednesdays will remain an early dismissal with Faculty PD from 3:30-4:30pm.

Announcements & Upcoming Events

Kicking Off The Term

Student schedules are in PowerSchool and can be accessed by students. We would like all students to attend Focus Group Monday morning at which time they will be provided an opportunity to review their schedules and receive support as needed.

Focus Group time, location, and Academic Coach will continue to remain the same as Winter Term.

Term 3 Add/Drop

Students will be expected to attend all scheduled classes on Monday, and will be able to access add/drop forms beginning on Tuesday. Add/Drops will be reviewed by the College Prep team to determine approval on a rolling basis over the course of the week. Schedules will reflect add/drop and a communication will be sent to students notifying them of any approved changes.

The add/Drop window will be closed at the end of the day Friday, May 18th.

Early College Update

Mr. Jonathon Marowelli

Winter term college success!

This past term, JPEC students enrolled in 291 classes and experienced some of our highest levels of success, yet. Our average GPA was a 3.2, our median score was a 4.0, and we had a less than 5% fail rate in college coursework!

New Term!

As term 3 starts, your patience with schedule corrections is appreciated. Thankfully, as college courses don't start until the 23rd, at the earliest, we have a little bit of leeway before that time. I will be working diligently to accommodate schedule changes as much as possible, but students should not expect graduation requirements to be removed from their schedules until they have been completed.

Course change requests are due by 5/18.

JPEC In The News!

MLive recently covered JPEC's college successes, including our student's earning Associate degrees from Jackson College.
