TAF Donor Spotlight: David and Kari Louthan

David and Kari are ELITE supporters of Southern Utah Athletics. Get to know the Louthan's and find out why they give to Thunderbird Athletic Foundation.

How Kari got involved with SUU Athletics:

"After my gymnastics career, I got hired on by SUU as the Assistant Gymnastics Coach from 2007-2015. I then decided to work from home, & was the Director Of Gymnastics Operations for 2 more years as the staff transitioned" Kari said.

Why Kari + David give back to SUU Athletics:

"When you’re a donor, you become part of that team and you want to help see the athletes/coaches be successful in all ways. Working to make the team’s experience top notch also helps the athletes mentally rise to that next level" Kari said.

"Funding someone’s passion in academics can set them on a path for excellence outside of college athletics, which definitely makes you feel a part of something much greater than the donation itself. Whether you’re a current, former athlete, or a fan, a donor imprints their own legacy on a team."

Favorite memory with Thunderbird Athletics:

1. The vault landing of Bailey Pendley at the 2010 WAC Championships. Pendley's vault helped secure the 1st & only WAC Championship Title for the SUU Flippin' Birds!

2. The Regional Championships in 2015, which secured SUU Gym's highest team title finish in school history as 15th in the Nation!

"We collectively felt so much a part of everyone’s routine & success that night. Yet, we knew there was even greater potential & ability within our team" Kari said.

3. As a spectator, Kari and David enjoyed watching the Flippin' Birds reach a team score of 197, not once, but twice in the same season. They also witnessed Stacie Webb’s 10.0 beam routine first-hand at BYU on the floor of competition!

Kari and David describe themselves as "sort of workaholics." Their favorite hobbies are talking about business ideas or future adventures over yummy food delights (sushi or sweets). David likes to rebuild homes & Kari is getting yoga certified + running her 1st ever 1/2 marathon this year!

David & Kari's "Why"

"We fund the superheroes in leotard. That’s our super hero power!🤣 What’s yours?" Kari said.

"Isn’t gymnastics one of the best sports to support? The elegance, entertainment, & quest for witnessing PERFECTION make it my favorite sport."
