WHY PHOTOGRAPHY

"You know I was never really into photography in the first place. It all started when I needed to choose an elective to take in high school. I saw photography was option so I was like screw it why not. Once I was in the class I actually really enjoyed and thought to myself maybe I should keep taking photo classes. Towards the end of the semester my photo teacher suggested that I join the yearbook class as a staff photographer and so I did. Next semester comes by and I join the staff. I mainly shot the sporting events which I think really sparked me into thinking maybe this is what I really want to do. After that semester, I went to college. Being that I wanted to keep pursuing photography I took some more classes. The same thing that happened in my high school class happened in one of my college photography classes. My professor suggested that I join that campus newspaper as a staff photographer, and so I did. My first semester on the paper was pretty cool because I got to shoot many types of things from sports to events to portraits. From there I knew this is what I want to do. The next semester I became the Photo Editor for the paper and continued to do so for the next two years that I was there. Within these two years I shot many feature portraits, I was able to attend LA Fashion week and one of my favorites was photographing Ziggy Marley. I also received many awards for my work as well as a scholarship for pursing photojournalism as a career. Since then I knew that photography and photojournalism was my calling and is what I continue doing here at Cal State Fullerton.
