Basketball Memories Photographs of the Ottawa Shooting Stars

I am not a sports photographer but when your son is on a basketball team and you go to all the games and tournaments what else are you supposed to do? I spend most of my time photographing his games on the sidelines, trying to acti like of sports photographer, but I still consider myself an event photographer, capturing the memories of my son and his team playing the game.

Sports photography isn't easy. You to move fast, anticipate what will happen next and try to capture as much peak action and emotion from the players as you can. Zoom in as close as you can with the fastest lens you can find in order to capture that action and emotion to make your images pop. Be prepared to take lots of images as only a few will stand out as keepers after the game. If you do it right, you can make any player look like a star in your photographs.

Although I made my photographs of the team available for viewing and downloading on my website (www.edleblanc.photography) for the coaching staff, players and their parents, I decided for the 2018-19 season to produce a set of team "trading cards". These were photographs of each of the players with the team title and season on each one. I also made photo books for the coaches that highlighted the year. I presented the books and trading cards to the coaches and players at the season ending dinner, giving them some "hard copy" memories to cherish. Despite seeing most of our photographs on a screen, it still can't compare to holding an actual photograph in your hands.
