TEL for ALL Feedback

The first round of TEL for ALL workshops have created a great momentum for TEL initiatives in GRETB. It was great to meet so many enthusiastic TEL advocates and to see the exciting projects that are being delivered in centres across the region. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey monkey in the November issue. This helped identify a range of further training initiatives for TEL as requested by you.

The survey identified huge interest in tools to develop learning resources and also using innovative software to create dynamic digital experiences for learners. iPad training for staff was highlighted as a priority and will be the focus of the next round of TEL training in February 2019. This will be followed by introduction to basic programming (coding) workshops in March 2019.

TEL in Action GRETB Training Centre: Carpentry and Joinery Apprentices

GRETB Training Centre Carpentry and Joinery Apprentices: Our next example of best practice comes from Michael Downes, Carpentry and Joinery instructor in the GRETB Training Centre. He has used custom animations in Microsoft PowerPoint to create a seamless video for his apprentices to teach them the process of creating an isometric drawing. Mike then uses the video in a number of settings: he uploads it to Moodle, he displays it in the classroom via interconnected PCs, and he also displays it on a monitor in the workshop. Often the apprentices will access the video on their mobile phone as well, as a direct reference for their work.

Thanks to Mike Downes in GRETB Training Centre for sharing this exciting project . If you would like to share a TEL idea or project please email aoife.fitzsimons@gretb.ie and we'll include it in our newsletter!
