Number The Stars Book Diary By: Marshall

War

I think war is when people fight for their freedom and to protect their family and friends.

In World War ll, people in those countries probably felt worry and scared if they are going to get bombed. Or some worry about their family that is serving in the war.

Community

What do you think about when you think about neighbors? I think that they are your friends and you should treat them well. They can help when you are in danger or need help.

If there was a war going on and my neighborhood was affected, I would realistically respond by seeing if they are ok and bring them to safety. Make a plan to get to safety and find out what is going on.

Number the stars

I think that there is a Jewish girl that is alone turning World War ll and the Nazis has took her parents. Now she has to learn to survive during this war. She will make friends and try to find her parents.

Literary Anslysis

I think she means that she should be one of many kids so she can not be found. She means that they will hurt you if they remember you and you did something wrong.

" Well; Annermarie said slowly, " now I think that all of Denmark must be bodyguard for the Jews, as well". ( page 25)

I think it would be great for the Jews. They will think that they are no diffrent from them. It is just the right thing to do too. She will protect Ellen from the guards and show them that Jews are no diffrent. She will show Ellen that she is a great friend.

"'Hold still,' Annemarie commanded. 'This will hurt." She grabbed the little gold chain with all her strength broke it. As the door opened and light flooded into the bedroom, she crumpled it not her hand and closed her fingers tightly."

Annemarie felt like she and Denmark are the bodyguards of the jews.

This show that Annemarie cares about Ellen and she will protect her in any way.

Predictions

"Annemarie admitted to herself, snuggling there in the quiet dark, that she was glad to be an ordinary person who would never be called upon for courage" (page 26, end of chapter 3).

We just reader that the soldiers are looking for the Jews and Ellen is in danger.

Therefor I think that Annemarie will protect Ellen for the soldiers and the dangers ahed from them.

My dog smells meat

We just read that Annemarie's mom is delivering the Jews to Uncle Henrik's boat to get them safe. When Mama was heading back she hurt her foot. Annemarie is taking care of her. Then Annemarie was sent off to deliver something to Henrik . She was stop by four soldiers with two dogs.

I think that the dogs will smell something but ignore it and Annemarie will make it.

Conflict

Man vs. Man

In NTS Annemarie is in the time were theres a war going on with soldiers and guns. Annemarie learned to always be brave even if you are scared.

I now that this is man vs. man because two sides are fighting for their rights and freedom.

Man vs. Society

In NTS Ellen is jewish like her family, but the Nazi is hunting them down.

Ellen learns that being jewish is all right.

I know this because Ellen is just one person and the Nazi is a whole army with allies and guns.

Man vs. Nature

When Annemarie was running though the woods she was facing off against the woods roots, trees, and the darkness. All of these examplies is nature.

Annemarie learned that to never give up on hope even when you are in a rough time.

I know that this is an example of man vs. nature because woods are nature and Annemarie is a human and that she is running over roots, branches, and she is in the darkens.

Man vs. Self

Annemarie was in bed one night when she was thinking to herself is that the soldiers going to do to her or hurt her. She just thought that she is a little girl that no one will hurt.

Annemarie learned that she should not worry about it and just move on.

I knew this because in text the author said that she thought to herself in bed.

Theme

Always be brave even if you can't be.

The theme means to just be brave even when you think you can't be.

In the beginning of the NTS Annemarie had to pull off Ellen's little gold chain that shows the star of David to protect her for the soldiers. At the end of the book she ran though the woods to give Uncle Henrik the packet. She even pass though four soldiers to get to him.
