Analysis of the article: Since climate change yields an increase in precipitation, there will also be an increase in surface runoff. That means a greater discharge of mercury and organic carbon to coastal ecosystems, which leads to higher levels of mercury in the small animals living there. These coastal regions are major feeding grounds for fish, and thus the organisms living there serve as an important source of mercury that accumulates to high levels in the fish people like to eat. Additionally, an increase in organic matter entering coastal areas can boost accumulation of mercury. This information is notable because mercury is one of the top 10 chemicals of major public health concern, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Efforts to reduce mercury may be challenging due to the fact that climate change is happening.

My big "takeaway:" Growing up, I never really heard anything about "mercury toxicity." Whenever I went out to a Japanese restaurant, my mom would order sushi and not think twice about it. However, nowadays she doesn't ever order tuna. With global warming and climate change, more and more toxins are building up in tuna (as well as other fish). This article made me even more aware about how climate change is affecting our weather and ecosystems. It's best to be aware about the surrounding environment and also what you are putting into your body. Furthermore, with the current status of our nation's president, it's even more important to be environmentally aware.
