CCS Students Boosting Morale At School Damaged By Hurricane Irma

In demonstrating ways to foster great character, first grade students in Mrs. Ely's class used skills learned in Writer's Workshop to create Welcome Back cards for children at Allen Park Elementary School in Fort Myers, Florida.

After their school building was damaged by Hurricane Irma, the children of Allen Park Elementary anticipate returning to their school on Monday, September 25th, after a two-week hiatus related to required repairs. Many of the children's homes suffered major destruction and they are still without power.

Mrs. Ely's first graders are aiding an effort to fill the school's hallways with cards to boost morale for the returning children and teachers. Her students' generosity, character, and confidence in writing are overflowing, as evidenced by this activity.

This project was inspired by former CCS teacher, Ms. Shelley Endrey. Ms. Endrey previously taught second grade at Collegium, but moved to Florida and began teaching at Allen Park Elementary. When asked how Collegium could assist Ms. Endrey and her Allen Park Elementary students, Ms. Endrey suggested the cards as a way to brighten the hallways and spirits of children, teachers, and parents upon their return. We are thrilled to take part in this project!

2017 Cougar Challenge

The Cougar Challenge is our walk/exercise-a-thon to raise money for our Home & School Association (HSA). The HSA provides financial support to Collegium by sponsoring student-oriented projects, hosting special events for families, providing additional funds for classroom materials, and offering scholarships for uniforms and field trips.

Why walking and exercising? To acknowledge the walking required by volunteers and Collegium founders to secure the 1,000+ signatures from community members in support of initially opening Collegium. This year’s event will be held Friday, September 29th. Additional information is provided below.

Last year, our families raised over $20,000 and we want to exceed that amount for 2017-2018. and if each CCS family solicits just $100 in donations, we will far exceed our goal. If credit card donations are preferable for your family and friends, use the link below.

Special thanks to Latsha, Davis, McKenna and PNC who are sponsoring this year’s event and to our other corporate donors who have been so generous to Collegium – BeneServ, FlynnO’Hara, Charter Choices, and BB&T – The Addis Group.

From the CCS Home and School Association (HSA)

Serving in a capacity similar to a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) or Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), our HSA owes its success to the efforts of our many parent, teacher, and staff volunteers!

What is the HSA?

The HSA promotes communication, cooperation, understanding, and active participation between parents/guardians and Collegium. We are responsible for planning fundraisers and events throughout the year. The funds that we raise help support many programs at Collegium including Uniform Scholarships, Teacher and Principal Funds, Field Trip Scholarships, and many others.

Want to join us? Complete our interest form and we will reach out to you! You can also connect directly with the HSA via our HSA Facebook Page and get the most up to date information on events, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities.

National Box Tops Week

National Box Tops for Education Week is September 24th through September 30th and the HSA is celebrating with a K-6th grade clipping drive!

Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for Collegium. Each Box Top is worth 10¢! Just look for the Box Tops coupon on hundreds of products that you probably already own. To participate in our clipping drive, simply clip, collect, and send your Box Tops to Collegium. Although National Box Tops for Education Week ends on September 30th, our clipping drive will end on October 6th.
