William Carey by: Pruett Phillips

William Carey was the son of Edmund and Elizabeth Carey and was born on August 17, 1761, in Northampton, England.
As a child William was interested in natural science, especially botany, and learned many languages on his own, including Latin.
When he got older he became an apprentice to a shoemaker. Once his master thought he had learned enough he let William become a shoemaker. After that he felt compelled to be with the church so, he became a Dissenter in a church.
He was married to Dorothy Packet first then he married Charlotte Rhumohy and had to kids named Peter and Felix.
Once he had become a dissenter he was invited to preach in the church of Earls Barton and thought that they were truly role-models so, he decided to get baptized by John Ryland.
He felt very compelled to spread the word of Christ so, one day he started saving up money to go to India, when he had enough him and his family packed up and went to India. He preached in India from 1793 until he died in 1834.
He left behind a legacy and a changed country. He made many people convert to Christianity and then, the people started to spread the word resulting in more christians. He also founded agri Horticultural of India in Alipore, Kolkata.
No awards were given to him even though, he did a lot of amazing work. Both in India and England
A bible verse he used was Isaiah 54:2 "Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes." This verse was used to write a sermon which started a humongous Christian movement.
Quotes: "Accept great things from God. Attempt great things for God." "To know the will of God, we need an open Bible and an open map."
During his apprentice-ship, William met a dissenter, John Warr, and over the course of time, he left the Church of England and joined other dissenters to form a small congregational church near Hackle-town. After he felt like he had served his purpose there he left for India.
