Gravity in our solar system.

First we need gravity to survive if we or the earth would go shooting across outer space. So what keeps the moon orbiting Earth is inertia and gravity. Gravity keeps it close to the earth but not to close. If there were no gravity the moon would come rocketing down to earth.
