The two very basic sources that provide historians with the bit of information that they have on Shakespeare's life are from records and his literary works.

Shakespeare's birthplace Stratford-on-Avon. He might have been born here on April 23, 1564. The exact day of his birth is not for certain, but church records do show his baptism on April 26. His parents were John Shakespeare, a leather merchant, and Mary Arden, a local heiress

In 1582 Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway whom he birthed his 3 children with. The boy of which dying in childhood.

The period between 1585 and 1592 is known as the "Lost Years" because there are no documentary records of Shakespeare's activities.

By the early 1590s, William Shakespeare was a managing partner in the Lord Chamberlain's Men. By 1597, 15 of 37 plays written by Shakespeare were published.

Shakespeare and his business partners built this theater, the Golden Globe, in 1599.

Known for his unique writing styles, Shakespeare primarily wrote in blank verse, which was a metrical pattern consisting of lines of unrhymed iambic pentameter.

Shakespeare's first plays were mostly histories, comedies, and tragedies. It was after 1600 that he began to write nearly all of his plays as a tragedy or a tragicomedy.

Shakespeare died on his believed birthday. He left most of his possessions to his eldest daughter, Susanna.

After 150 years after his death, questions arose about the authorship of William Shakespeare's plays. "Was William Shakespeare an alias?" "Was William Shakespeare an actual author and playwright?"
