The Evolution Of Man

Life has never been a simple easy ride for me. I was born in a hospital in Jackson, TN, to Susan Bartholomew. However, young Susan knew she could never provide the care and support that I would deserve. She made the difficult choice of putting me up for adoption. Lucky for her, the dean of the community college she attended, Loretta Friend, had been wanting a child of her own. I was born on the 17th of February, in the year 1997. Later that week, I went home with Ms. Friend, and began my journey in life.

I grew up in a tiny town called Oak Ridge, TN. It's not that far from Knoxville. If you know anything about Oak Ridge, you know that we have the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which is an internationally recognized institute of science. We have the world's fastest supercomputer, we made the material used in the first atomic bomb, and we now continue research into how we can harness nuclear energy. Because of this, I grew up in a town with a strong background in science. Also, I probably am like, radioactive, or something.

I have been blessed with an absolutely beautiful and accepting family. I live in a single parent household, and our extended family isn't much bigger. My mom is the most amazing person there is. She works so hard to provide everything that she can for me, and she does a good job of it. She's worked as a chemist, an educator, a college dean, and now she works for a government contractor. She's done everything she can. I love her so much.

My Family, minus my two cousins, and my other aunt and uncle.

The Loves of Life

Photography and photo editing/manipulation is one of my passions of life. Photography is an art. It's a unique and interesting way to capture raw emotion. Photography can tell a 1000 word story in one image. It is a permanent window into a view of life. A photograph can make you think, or laugh, or cry, or happy, or angry. It's one of my favorite things to do, when I have the time.

Music is art for the ears. Just as how photography is a story we can see, music is a story for the ears. With every stroke of the bow across the strings, the pure emotion of the instrument rings throughout the hall. I have been a viola player for 10 years now. I also have a background in piano and music production. Music is, in my opinion, the most powerful method to express how we feel, and I love being a part of it.

I am on the forefront of consumer technology. I was a smartphone user before the word smartphone was common place. I am always updated on the latest tech trends. People come to me to learn what's new. I built my own computer. I go through phones more than you can count. Need tech advice, or tech support? Find me. I got you covered.

Friends are there for you. They are there to support you, care for you, love you, and stick by you. My friends are the whole world to me. It's in my name. Literally. I love meeting new people and learning their background and experiences. I'm a social butterfly; a people person. Get to know me. I'm your friend (Get it?).

Did I mention I love my friends?

Sometimes I'm told that I care too much. Maybe I do, but that is only because I want everyone to have a life worth living. I am a strong proponent for diversity, and a staunch defender of people of color, LGBT individuals, women's rights, and more. In my opinion, it's common decency. No man or woman is better than the other. Be it race, gender, religion, sexuality, or ethnicity, I am there to support that individual's rights.

One of my jobs is working for a non-profit that works to destroy stigma around drug abuse. We also work to make resources available to victims of drug abuse, or the friends and family of those victims.

My Time at ETSU

My college career began here at East Tennessee State University, as a member of the College of Business and Technology. I have always been passionate about technology, and I felt that my calling was to be a system administrator. I happily began in the Fall of 2015, in the computing department.

It was a disaster.

That's why I'm here now. Programming was a nightmare. I would dread the projects or dread going to class. When I talked to my friend who switched to a Communication major, I started to get interested. I spoke with my cousin who works at the Tombras group in Knoxville, and immediately wanted to have her job. I want to inspire and move the world with advertising for companies that I think are amazing.

Let's see where I go from there.

I'm involved in campus life as well. You can find me in the cave on Fridays playing Smash Bros., as part of the ETSU eSports club. I also am an active member of ETSU's College Democrats. I am an active participant in ETSU's Residence Hall Association. I also am an RA for Carter, Stone, and Powell Hall.

Yes, I'm a gamer. If I'm not studying, working, or in class, I'm playing video games. I used to own a PS4, but recently I replaced it with my own gaming computer (the superior choice...fight me on this one). The two games I've been playing the most at this time are Overwatch and Forza Horizon 3. You can find me on, Steam, Origin, and even Xbox Live. Find me, and let's play some games together.

My story is constantly changing. It is constantly being rewritten. In the future, I want to be married. I want to share my love and life with a person who is important to me (I'm single right now). I want to live in a place where it snows (I love snow). I definitely will have to own at least 1 dog. Preferably a schnauzer.

However, I don't know what I will do in the future. I try not to think about what will happen. There's no use in constantly stressing over tomorrow. I have enough to worry about today, anyways. I am a person who wants to live in the moment.

And That's Me

You've learned about my birth and my family. You've learned about the things I love, the causes important to me, my life at ETSU, and of course, my (probably addictive) gaming habit. I shared a bit about my dreams for the future as well.

Now the question is, how will you fit into my life. Let's be friends. After all, it is my last name.
