Either way I’m excited!

Throughout this guide you’ll find all the information you need to guide you through the complete CWP experience. You’ll learn how to prepare for your session, what to expect, and all about the pricing and fun client reveal session! CWP has created each step to give you the full service photography experience you deserve.

Hi I'm Cindy and this is my crazy family!

The Cindy White Photography Experience

Raise your hand if you have an iPhone, hard drive, disk or flash drive full of pictures. Raise your hand if not one of those pictures have ever been printed. Do you have both of your hands up now? Cindy White Photography strives to make sure that neither of these two things happen!

CWP is a full service boutique photography business. My goal is to make sure you not only have an amazing session that leaves you with fun memories but also to provide you with heirloom quality prints and products that will last a lifetime.

No more files hidden away in drawers for no one to see. About a week after your portrait session you’ll have your reveal session where you’ll get to see all of your images for the first time. That day we’ll work to create amazing products to showcase your entire session. From wall art to albums-CWP has a full range of products to meet all of your needs!

I’m guessing that right now you’re saying “But I want the digital files!”. Don’t worry, I completely understand where you’re coming from. I value digital files as much as you do (otherwise I wouldn’t have a computer filled with precious family memories!). CWP offers digital files along with other quality products for your family to enjoy. You’ll get the best of both worlds and doesn’t get much better than that!

So now it’s time to grab a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) and flip through these pages. Together, we’ll create an experience of a lifetime!

"Cindy is so professional and has an amazing eye! I am so lucky to have found her and would highly recommend her to anyone. We just had a newborn session scheduled and the pictures were so phenomenal that I had to get the whole first year package. We have had our six month photo shoot and getting ready for the one year photo shoot in the next couple of months. I can't wait to see what she has planned!" Kristin P.

Planning Your Session

I am so pleased you have chosen (or are thinking about choosing) Cindy White Photography and look forward to working with you and your precious little one. Newborns are my passion and I consider myself truly blessed to be around these little miracles so much. Whether this is your first or forth child, I know that you are excited to welcome your new little one into the world. As a mother of 3, I remember those months of waiting with so much anticipation and excitement. Meeting this new little person is the most amazing experience that you will want to remember forever. My goal is for you to look at these images for years to come and be brought back to these first days together and remember every little detail about this new little blessing.

What's the first step to your dream session with CWP? Scheduling your newborn session during your 2nd trimester is ideal. With all of the other things that you will have on your mind while preparing for your baby's arrival, it's nice to have your session already on the books. Newborns are best photographed within the first 2 weeks of life. Your baby will still be nice and sleepy and easier to pose in those sweet cuddly womb-like positions they are used to. I like to start with your due date, and then choose a tentative session day from that. As soon as you book your newborn session I will get your due date on my calendar and await your phone call/text message/email letting me know that your baby has arrived. At that time we will adjust our session date if needed. Babies tend to have their own little schedules for arrival, so we can be a little bit flexible with our session date in case he/she decides to come a little sooner or later.

What to Expect

For Baby

There are a few steps you can take to prepare your baby for their newborn session. Following these will help your baby to feel calm and relaxed during our time together. Please feed your baby 2-3 hours prior to our session, and plan on feeding him/her as soon as you arrive at my studio. It's also best to not let him/her sleep beforehand. Try to keep your baby awake for the few hours before our session. This is super important. If you are having a hard time keeping them awake, one little trick is to give them a bath. Play with them, sing and talk. All of this stimulation will help to make your baby nice and sleepy. This will ensure your little one is ready for a nice long nap when you arrive, and we will be able to get those cuddly, sleepy newborn poses.

When preparing your baby for the trip to my studio, try to keep his/her diaper nice and loose. Doing this will make it easier to remove and prevent little marks on the skin.

My studio space will be around 80 degrees to ensure your baby is nice and comfy. Newborns cannot regulate their body temperature during the first weeks of life, so while I am working with your baby, we need to keep things toasty and warm. I highly recommend dressing in layers so that you can be comfortable too.

Newborn sessions last between 3-4 hours, or sometimes longer if your little one is a light sleeper, or is hungry. The easiest way to ensure a sleepy baby is the willingness to nurse/bottle-feed off and on throughout the session. I also recommend bringing along a soothie pacifier. These are the bendable green/blue ones that the hospital sends home. These are great because they can help soothe your little one without leaving marks on the skin around their mouth. Sometimes babies just need that extra element of comfort as we move through our poses.

“Cindy takes exquisite photos! I am SO lucky to know her, and have her capture such beautiful memories of our family! She is amazing to work with, and the way she naturally knows how to handle the tiniest babies is by far her greatest gift. Our sweet one was just 4 days old during our newborn session and peacefully slept through the whole thing because Cindy was so patient and gentle with her! During our six month session she had our baby smiling and laughing the entire time! I will never trust another photographer for our most important family pictures!! We love Cindy!!” - Lindsay, Reston

For Mom & Dad

Mom and Dad, you are a big part of the show. Photographing the connection between you and your baby is one of my all time favorite things. Just as they encourage in the hospital, babies love skin to skin contact, and it creates the most beautiful images.

Dads - I love to photograph dads embracing their little ones. When choosing your shirt for your images, I ask that you choose a fitted solid t-shirt that is free of any graphics. White, charcoal, or black work best. Please also choose a good snug pair of jeans.

Moms - Motherhood is truly the greatest gift there is. Many times after giving birth, we don't feel that we look our best, but your beauty and love for your little one will shine through. Rest assured, I aim to photograph using flattering angles and light to bring out the natural beauty in your family. I recommend wearing a loose-fitting solid tank top in your images. Keep the color neutral and the design simple. Be sure that you only use clear nail polish (if any) for a clean natural look.

For Siblings

Including an older brother/sister in your newborn's portraits is the perfect way to document this fleeting time in your lives. If siblings will be photographed, we will take those shots first so that they are free to leave after they are finished. Asking a toddler to sit quietly during a 3 hour session can be a daunting task, so having someone to take them back home after they are finished is a good idea. Take a few moments to explain to your little ones about having their picture taken with their new baby brother/sister.

Sisters - I can proved a wrap that will act as the perfect top, to coordinate with your baby, or please bring along a snug fitting tank or dress in a neutral color. I ask that girls hair be natural or in braids and free of large bows that can distract from their faces. A simple headband or barrette can be helpful to tame tiny strands of hair.

Brothers - A snug pair of jeans and leaving your son shirtless are preferred. However, if your little guy is uncomfortable, a tight-fitting white tshirt is completely fine.

Checklist for the day of your session

Pack a spare change of clothes for both you and your baby just in case there are any little accidents.

Bring along your baby's hospital pacifier (Soothie brand) as they can be very helpful for soothing during the session.

Bring along a few snacks in case you get hungry during the session. I will provide plenty of bottled water for you while you are here. I will do my best to be wrapped up by lunchtime, but it's nice to have something to nibble on until then.

If you are formula feeding, please be sure to bring plenty of extra bottles so that we can assure baby is full and content as needed. If you are nursing, please avoid caffeine or spicy/gassy foods and drinks for 24 hours prior to your session.

After the Session

You’ve already had an amazing time at your session but now things are about to get even better! One week after your session we’ll have your reveal & design session (We’ll schedule this at the same time we schedule your session to make sure you see your images as soon as possible!). At your reveal session you’ll see all of your images for the first time. It’s definitely something to get excited about!

That day/night you’ll come back to the studio and I’ll show you a custom slideshow with your images and maybe even some video that I’ve taken throughout your session.

After you’ve experienced the slideshow you’ll have some time to go through all of your images and take a look at all of the product samples. Seeing everything in person will really give you a sense of what products are most important to you. My favorites are canvases and bamboo image boxes!

You’ll have plently of time to ask any questions, see what your images will look like on your own walls (this is pretty amzing) to see what sizes will work best and enough time to pick out your favorites.

The goal of the reveal session is to finalize your order so we can get your prints and products to you as soon as possible. To help make this stress free it’s a great idea to take a look through all of the different products so you can go into it with an idea of what might work best for you. Once you’ve seen your images that may change but it’s always good to have an idea when we get started!

When all the fun of the reveal is over, you’ll have a short wait before you’ll have those images in your hands! You can expect to have your prints and products in hand within 2-4 weeks. When everything is in we’ll schedule a time that I can hand deliver everything to make sure it gets there safely! If you are outside of Culpeper, I will have items shipped directly to your home.

Create Your Own Collection

I believe that every family's needs and wants are different from their custom portrait session. I've made the process as easy as possible when selecting what best suits your needs. You start with your keepsake product(s). These are the item you have have displayed in your home and you can look back on years from now. The next is your archive digital portraits. I know its important to have backup, and that is exactly what these are for. CWP has no order minimum requirement. Only purchase what you love!

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.” – Aaron Siskind
