Here are some news and notes from Sunday’s scrimmage:
The first song played during stretch was “Rock You Like A Hurricane” by the Scorpions … the entire scrimmage was thud contact … the majority of the scrimmage featured the first team offense vs. the first team defense and the second team offense against the second team defense … the first team offense started the scrimmage with an impressive 75-yard scoring drive, ending with a 14-yard touchdown run by graduate RB Travis Levy … Levy and transfer RB Alec Sinkfield ran the ball extremely effectively on the opening drive, along a 20-yard reception from transfer TE Trae Barry from QB Phil Jurkovec … junior Jason Maitre has seen a ton of playing time at free safety this preseason and worked with the first team defense on Sunday … true freshman DE Donovan Ezeiruaku continued his impressive transition to Boston College with a majority of reps with the starting defense … junior LB Vinny DePalma had two tackles behind the line of scrimmage and a pass breakup Sunday … DePalma missed all of last season with an Achilles injury … Jaden Williams was on the receiving end of a couple chunk plays from Jurkovec and QB Dennis Grosel … Danny Longman drilled a 35-yard field goal as the first team offense scored on its second drive of the scrimmage … on a drive starting at the +37, Grosel found Ezechiel Tieide for a 35-yard completion before capping off the drive with a one-yard touchdown run … Xavier Coleman continues to be a multi-dimensional threat for the Eagles in both the run and pass game … Jahmin Muse made a nice pass breakup in coverage on Barry … freshman LB Casey Phinney had a sack for the second team defense, but the play was negated due to an offsides penalty … freshman DL Ty Clemons and graduate DB Mike Palmer both recorded sacks as well … redshirt freshman DB Jason Scott recorded an interception … Coleman ripped off a 15-yard touchdown run to end a scoring drive … Ethon Williams had two receptions from Grosel as the two looked to find a good rhythm on Sunday … on Monday, the Eagles will hold their annual media day with head coach Jeff Hafley and his entire coaching staff meeting with local reporters beginning at 12:40 p.m. inside Fish Field House … QB Phil Jurkovec, C Alec Lindstrom, OL Zion Johnson, WR Zay Flowers, DE Brandon Barlow, LB Isaiah Graham-Mobley, CB Brandon Sebastian, DB Jaiden Woodbey, RB Travis Levy, DE Marcus Valdez and RB Xavier Coleman will be available from 1:30 – 2 p.m. on Monday inside Fish Field House.
