BASD e-News May 22, 2020

To the BASD Staff, Parents, Students, and Community

I hope you are safe and healthy. The BASD e-News is designed to help keep us connected as a school district and a community, to share events in the Bethlehem Area School District and in the Lehigh Valley, and to show how we are #builtbybethlehem. We would also like to use it at this time to help connect you to different types of services that are available to our students, parents, staff, and community as we face different challenges each day with the panademic that we are living through with the COVID-19 crisis. It is our hope that you find it informative.

If you would like to acknowledge a student or staff member or share an upcoming event, please feel free to e-mail my Assistant for Communications, Barbara Clymer, at bclymer@basdschools.org.

To Our Staff - If You are Sick - You Can Stay Home and Use Capital BlueCross Virtual Care Instead!

As of April 1, 2020, Bethlehem Area School District has expanded all benefit plans to include Virtual Care through Capital BlueCross. Virtual Care doctors can evaluate your risk for COVID-19 and other respiratory conditions, provide a treatment plan, or refer you to in-person care if needed. Of particular note is that you can also use Virtual Care if offered by your own providers for Medical, Behavioral Health, and Specialty doctor visits.

With Virtual Care, you: avoid being infected by others and obtain care from the safety and comfort of home. Don't run the risk of infecting others with whatever ails you.

Until April 15, visits to Capital BlueCross Virtual Care for medical and behavioral health services are free for all members.

After the above time period, the member will be responsible for co-pays as follows:

PPO - $10.00 Primary Care and $25.00 Specialty Provider

Traditional - Coinsurance will apply

July 6-17, 2020 - Teen Ensemble

July 20-31, 2020 - Camp Touchstone

Touchstone Theatre pleased to announce that although we will not be able to meet in person for our traditional Camp Touchstone and Teen Ensemble programs this year, we will still be offering summer camp programming online! We know nothing will replace the feeling of gathering for check-in circles, warm-up games, and final performances, but we’re not going to let the pandemic keep us from creating together.

We’re still in the process of sorting out the details - we think this will take place via Zoom, we’re pretty sure the days will be shorter than our usual sessions, and we imagine that fees will be lower than usual - but in the meantime, please email emma@touchstone.org to let us know if you’re interested and want to stay in the loop, so we can let you know as we solidify details. We’ve already started looking at curriculum, thinking about what we’ll be able to do online, and we hope to see your pixelated faces soon!
