Sculpture Milwaukee Wisconsin AVENUE Gets An Artistic Upgrade

Gertie the Duck has some new and impressive neighbors along Wisconsin Avenue.

Sculpture Milwaukee, a series of outdoor sculptures along Wisconsin Avenue featuring 22 works by world renowned artists, including Santiago Calatrava, opened to the public June 1.

“This is the largest exhibit of museum-quality sculptures in the world. In the world! You won’t find anything like this any place else but in Milwaukee,” said Steve Marcus, the project’s visionary.

Former Milwaukee Art Museum director Russell Bowman curated the sculptures, which are on loan from galleries across the nation. The featured pieces of art will be available for purchase, with a percentage of the commission of each sale to be reinvested into the project to sustain an annual exhibition.

Sculpture Milwaukee will be on display for five months in what will become an annual experience featuring new works each year. Officials say they hope it will provide a resurgence of activity along Wisconsin Avenue.
