2018 Season Recap

The 2018 Buckeyes concluded the season with a 9-6-4 record and their ninth NCAA appearance in the last 10 seasons. Ohio State earned a No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament after placing third in Big Ten play with a 6-2-3 conference record. The Buckeyes earned ranked wins at No. 5 Florida and No. 21 Northwestern while picking up a home victory over No. 19 Wisconsin.

2018 Honors

Senior goalkeeper Devon Kerr was named the 2018 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year, the first in Ohio State history, after concluding her Buckeye career third in program history with 19 shutouts and a 0.82 goals-against average.

Kerr, along with sophomore defender Izzy Rodriguez, also were named first team All-Big Ten. Kerr tied for third in the Big Ten with eight shutouts while ranking fourth with an .826 save percentage and a 0.78 goals-against average. Rodriguez, from Canton, Mich., tied for the team lead with four goals while adding a pair of assists for a team-best 10 points in 19 games.

For the third time in her career, senior Sarah Roberts earned Big Ten recognition, garnering second team all-conference laurels in 2018. A critical member of the Buckeye midfield, Roberts played in 15 matches, including 14 starts, as a senior.

Meanwhile, newcomers Talani Barnett, Kayle Fischer and Emaly Vatne each were named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team. Barnett made 17 appearances off the bench, scoring two goals and tying for third on the team with a pair of assists. Fischer played in 17 contests, including 13 starts, tying for the team lead with four goals while adding an assist. Vatne played in 12 matches before injury, making eight starts, and tied for third on the team with three goals and two assists.

Junior Alyssa Baumbick was the Buckeyes' Big Ten Sportsmanship award honoree, starting all 19 matches while scoring a pair of goals from her midfield spot.

Ohio State also would like to congratulate their six graduating seniors: Eleanor Gabriel, Brianna Gazmarian, Arden Holden, Devon Kerr, Kylie Knight and Sarah Roberts for their tremendous contributions to the program!

Buckeyes By the Numbers

  • Kayla Fischer and Izzy Rodriguez each paced the Buckeyes with four goals on the year
  • Eleanor Gabriel and Marike Mousset each recorded a team-best three assists
  • Fischer and Talani Barnett both recorded a team-high two game-winning goals
