PARTNER SPOTLIGHT:

Destin - Fort Walton Beach

Stacey Young, Community & Media Relations Strategist slyoung@myokaloosa.com

Captivating sugar-white sand beaches and emerald-green waters await visitors in Destin-Fort Walton Beach. Located in Northwest Florida, the destination is not only an ideal place to unwind and experience total relaxation beachside, but to tap into the adventurous side within. The family-friendly locale offers an environment of discovery to play and explore, inviting kids to get on the water and give their adventurous side room to grow. Visitors enjoy abundant watersports, pristine beaches, Gulf-to-Table seafood, championship golf, lively nightlife, and numerous attractions, festivals and events designed to thrill all ages.

Destin-Fort Walton Beach has been regarded as “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” for decades, and with over 20 types of edible fish available off its shores, and dozens of one-of-a-kind restaurants serving them, it’s easy to see why. Anglers can choose from inshore Gulf Fishing in state waters and offshore Gulf Fishing in federal waters, to the sleepy bayous, and pristine waters of the Choctawhatchee Bay. Located just ten miles from 100-foot depths, East Pass in Destin offers the speediest access to the Gulf of Mexico in the country, making for less travel time and more. Home to America’s largest fishing fleet, comprised of more than 140 vessels, thousands of pounds of fresh fish are brought in each day.

There are many fishing tournaments to choose from in Destin-Fort Walton Beach with the famed Destin Fishing Rodeo taking place the entirety of October. Dependent on the season, anglers can try their luck in one of the many tournaments such as the Cobia World Championship or the Flounder Pounder Tournament at HarborWalk Marina.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT:

Florida Citrus Sports

Steve Hogan, Chief Executive Officer | shogan@fcsports.com

Florida Citrus Sports is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to increasing community spirit and pride, promoting tourism, stimulating economic development and ultimately benefiting charities, educational institutions and the quality of life in Central Florida through its signature events.

Since our first bowl game in 1947, it is estimated that Florida Citrus Sports has helped thousands of at risk youth in Central Florida through the Florida Citrus Sports Foundation MVPs programs.

Today, Florida Citrus Sports has more than 1,000 members and the organization is still growing.

Our vision is to become the bowl industry leader in generating economic and exposure impact, providing the best customer experience and to establish Orlando as the nation’s premier neutral site/venue for sports events.

EVENT SPOTLIGHT:

Asian Basketball Championships of North America (ABCNA)

ABCNA Tournament Site Director Sandy Yu (left) and Director Mike Mon (right).

The Asian Basketball Championships of North America (ABCNA) was founded in 2015 and has successfully hosted over 25 tournaments throughout the country since its inception. With National Championships, Eastern & Western Regionals, summer shootouts, Pre National Classics, and its renowned Thanksgiving Turkeyball, this highly regarded organization annually produces blocks in excess of 800 room nights, with the National Championships leading the way with about 500 nights consistently.

The ABCNA's market segment is comprised of an excellent tourism demographic, mostly from the Northeast and California. The ABCNA's largest event crowns the National Champions and features between 40-50 teams competing in numerous youth divisions, women's divisions, and multiple men's divisions, ranging from weekend warrior types to Professional level stars.

One unique aspect of this tournament is the ABCNA Pro Day, where talent scouts and agents come in a day early to evaluate prospects in a combine atmosphere. One more highlight that separates this organization from the rest is that our board is comprised of all unpaid volunteers. There is no gate fee, and any revenue generated is put back into grassroots clinics or exposure events that seek to connect their players to Professional contracts. The ABCNA last visited the Sunshine State in 2017, as the National Tournament was held in Fort Lauderdale. The ABCNA is looking forward to a successful return to Florida in upcoming years.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Sunshine State Games and Florida Senior Games are always in need of volunteers to assist at the various festivals and championships throughout the year. If you would like to get involved TODAY, please contact the Florida Senior Games and Sunshine State Games office at 850-577-7200 or games@playinflorida.com.

TAG IT TODAY!

We love our professional sports teams. And one way to show that love is to buy a specialty license plate for the team or sport of your choice.

But did you know that by buying a Florida sports license plate, you are also supporting youth and amateur athletes, as well? Through grants made possible by the sale of these license plates, young athletes are able to gain the tools and experience they need to perhaps become professional athletes one day … and amateur athletes of all ages are given the opportunity to become more well-rounded individuals.

A portion of each tag fee (between $15-$25, depending upon the specialty plate) goes either to the team’s designated youth charity, is granted by the Florida Sports Foundation to support sporting events across the state, supports the Sunshine State Games and other sports development opportunities. The additional tag fee is tax-deductible.
