MOCS TOPPLED IN 2016 TITLE REMATCH ... Last season, Florida Southern upset top-ranked Adelphi, 8-7, to capture the NCAA Division II National Championship. Last night, #2 ranked Adelphi got revenge with a 12-5 win over #1 Florida Southern at Bryant Stadium. The loss snapped a 15-match win streak by the Moccasins (read more). Florida Southern opened the season with a 18-12 win over #8 Grand Valley State behind seven goals by Kendall Kerge and four more from Emily Santoli (read more).

DUO PICKS UP SSC HONORS ... Senior Taylor Gillis made eight saves in the Moccasins' 18-12 win over #8 Grand Valley State in the season opener and was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week (read more). On the other side, Kendall Kerge scored seven goals in the same match to earn SSC Offensive Player of the Week recognition.

ROAD TRIP ... The Moccasins will play their next three matches on the road beginning with a split doubleheader on Feb. 24 at McKendree in Lebanon, IL at 1 pm ET. FSC will stay in Lebanon for a second match on Friday, taking on Rockhurst on the McKendree campus at 8 pm ET. The Moccasins cap the three-game road trip with a noon match at Lindenwood in St. Charles, MO on Sunday.

GARTRELL'S THIRD PLACE SHOWING LEADS MOCS ... Freshman Amanda Gartrell finished in third place with an even-par 216 to lead Florida Southern to a fourth-place showing in the Lady Moc Classic on Monday and Tuesday. Sophomore Madison Wetzel placed 17th while senior Shannon McKew was 31st overall (Day 1 | Day 2)

UP NEXT ... Florida Southern's next tournament will be March 13-14 at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Winter Springs, hosted by Rollins.

FSC FOURTH IN FIRST SPRING POLL ... The first Division II men's golf national poll of the spring has been announced and the Florida Southern Moccasins are now No. 4 in the February 17 Bushnell Coaches Poll (read more).

COULTAS EARNS THIRD SSC WEEKLY HONOR ...After winning the 2017 Matlock Collegiate Classic with a near-record score, Florida Southern's John Coultas has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Men's Golfer-of-the-Week for February 20 (read more)

PANTHER INVITE NEXT ... Florida Southern will compete next at the Panther Invitational on March 6-7 at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, FL.

WOMEN PLACED THIRD AT SSC CHAMPIONSHIP ... Junior Peyton Breault and sophomore Haley DeGrace each won another medal Sunday on the final day of the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Women's Swimming Championships, and their performance helped the Moccasins secure third-place in the team standings. MEN'S TEAM TAKES SECOND AT SSC MEET ... Marco Palacios won the 100-backstroke to become the first men's swimmer in SSC history to win three consecutive conference titles in two different events. In addition, Luis Jasso set a FSC record in the 200-breaststroke as Florida Southern placed second in the four-day event. (Read more: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4)

FSC RUNS WIN STREAK TO SIX GAMES ... The Moccasins celebrated their four seniors – Giulia Simioni, Danielle Thomas, Gianna Vastola, and Flo Ward – in grand style by defeating Lynn, 60-51, on senior night last Saturday for the team's sixth straight win. Gianna Vastola and Anissa Toumi netted 20 points to lead the team (read more). Earlier in the week, Toumi pumped in 18 points and Anja Fuchs-Robetin grabbed nine rebounds as FSC topped Tampa, 68-58, on the road on Wednesday (read more).

VASTOLA EARNS SSC HONOR AND SCORES 1,000th POINT ... Gianna Vastola has been named the SSC Player of the Week for the third time this season after scoring 24 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in two games last week (read more). Vastola, who played her freshman season for Coach Betsy Harris at Coastal Georgia, scored her 1,000th career point in the Tampa game. The senior forward has 623 points during her Florida Southern career.

SSC RACE ... Florida Southern enters tonight's game at Barry with an 18-7 overall mark and stand in second place with a 13-3 record in the SSC standings, one game behind Eckerd (14-2), which plays at Saint Leo tonight. The two clubs finish the regular season with a head-to-head match up on Feb. 25 in St. Petersburg. The Mocs defeated Eckerd, 74-61, earlier in the season and would therefore get the top seed for the SSC Tournament should the two teams tie for first place.

FSC FALLS TWICE IN SSC ACTION ... Tampa's buzzer-beating three-pointer resulted in a 79-78 win over Florida Southern in the Spartans' home gym last Wednesday. Jeremiah Davis led the Moccasins with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. The loss drops FSC to 11-15 overall and leaves the team in sixth place with an 8-8 mark in the SSC. (read more). On Senior Night, Florida Southern fell 93-70 to Lynn, despite 16 points from senior Michael Volovic. Davis, the team's only other senior, added 12 points (read more).

SOFTBALL SWEEPS ECKERD ... Shannon Bell led a 17-hit attack as Florida Southern downed Eckerd 9-1 in the second game of Friday's doubleheader to take a twin bill from the Tritons. In game one, Leah Pemberton's two-out RBI single broke a scoreless tie in the 10th inning and led to FSC beating Eckerd, 4-1 (read more). In Saturday's series finale combined a hit batter, a double, an illegal pitch and a perfect bunt for a 4-3 win as FSC swept the season series (read more).

BEACHAM NAMED SSC PITCHER OF THE WEEK ... Florida Southern's Kristen Beacham has been named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week for February 20 after a 10-inning, complete game win over Eckerd College in her most recent appearance (read more).

BELLOTTO NOW STATE'S WINNINGEST SOFTBALL COACH ... Head coach Chris Bellotto has now surpassed former Florida State coach JoAnne Graf for the most wins among any collegiate softball coach in the state of Florida. Bellotto now has 1,189 career fast-pitch wins at Florida Southern while Graf won 1,186 games at Florida State from 1984-2008. Florida Atlanta’s Joan Joyce is third on that list with 886 heading into last Saturday. South Florida’s Ken Eriksen is the only other active coach in Florida with more than 750.

BASEBALL CRUSHES CLAFLIN ... Florida Southern slammed 12 homers in a three-game road sweep at Claflin over the week, outscoring the Panthers, 57-10, in the series. In game one, Cody Burgess hit three homers and drove in six runs and Mitch Reeves hit two out while Logan Browning struck out eight batters in 5.0 innings for a 17-1 win (read more). In game two, Burgess and Reeves each went deep once again while Omar Villaman and Evan Barnes also homered in a 25-7 victory (read more). In the finale, Christian Maglich went yard twice and Kevin Fuller added a homer in a 15-2 win (read more).

WALSH RUNS SCORELESS STREAK TO 14.1 INNINGS ... Junior Jake Walsh tossed 6.0 shutout innings in game two of the Claflin series and now has not allowed a run in his last 14.1 innings pitched. On the season, he has a 2-0 record and a 0.45 ERA, having allowed one run with 19 strikeouts in 20.0 innings.

MOCS LOSE ONE, HAVE ONE RAINED OUT, ANOTHER RESCHEDULED ... In the only match of the week, FSC fell 6-3 to West Florida in a match played Feb. 17 on the Valdosta State College campus (read more). The Mocs were to play the host Blazer on Feb. 18, but that match was rained out. FSC was also to have played at Eckerd on Feb. 15, but that match, too, was rained out and rescheduled for Feb. 28 in St. Petersburg.

MEN'S TENNIS DROPS TO THE ARGOS, ONE TO MOTHER NATURE ... Florida Southern dropped a 7-2 match to West Florida on Feb. 17 in Valdosta, GA (read more). The following day's match versus the host Blazers was rained out and will be not be rescheduled.

MEN'S TRACK EARNS 10 POINTS AT ERAU LAST CHANCE MEET ... The Florida Southern men's track team totaled 10 points to place 16th out of 27 teams at the Embry-Riddle Last Chance Meet held here Saturday at the ERAU Track Complex. The Moccasins got all 10 of their points in the 3,000 meter run as Evan Quinones placed third with a 8:54.38 for six points and Festus Kemboi came in fifth at 8:56.86 for four points (read more).

WOMEN'S SQUAD HAS A PAIR OF TOP TEN FINISHES ... Florida Southern had of a pair of top ten finishes at the Embry-Riddle Last Chance meet here at the ERAU Track Complex. Jolene Vergauwen finished eighth in the 5,000 meter for the Moccasins' lone point of the meet as the team place 20th out of 20 teams while Allison Wright came in 9th in the 3,000 meter race (read more).

MOCS COMPETE AT SCAD EVENT ... Emily Shoaff took first place in the Flat Novice W/T/C Class 3B in a Region Five Zone Five event host Saturday at the Savannah College Art & Design. Also Marjorie Rodolsi placed second in the Flat Novice Class 4A event (read more).

Congratulations to former Moccasin men's basketball player, Ed Kershner '64, on his 900th career win as a high school coach. Kershner, currently coaching at Oviedo High, is in his 45th season on the prep coaching level and has his team headed to the Florida Class 9A State Regional championship game this Friday.

The 1994 men's golf team featured a pair of future PGA members in Lee Janzen (middle row, right) and Rocco Mediate (front row, center). Janzen, who captured eight PGA tournaments, won the U.S. Open in 1993 and 1998 and Mediate, who won six PGA events, battled Tigers Woods in a play-off in the 2008 US open.
