You will depart the US on your evening flight to Sofia, Bulgaria to arrive no later than noon.

October 20, 2018

Welcome to Sofia! Your local guide will great you at the Sofia International Airport where you will be transferred to your centrally-located hotel. After check-in, we will start our city tour in the Bulgarian capital city. In the heart of Sofia you can admire the Temple St. Nedelya, the mosque Banya Bashi, the Synagogue, the Catholic cathedral St. Joseph, the orthodox cathedral St. Alexander Nevski, the rotunda St. George, the Presidency and much more. We will enjoy a festive dinner with Neshtinari Fire Dances and a folklore show at a local restaurant.

October 21, 2018

This morning we will travel to the Rila Mountains where we'll visit the famous Rila Monastery, built in the 14th century. The Monastery houses valuable paintings, thousands of manuscripts, old printed books and masterworks of wood carving. We will then drive to Dobarsko and meet with the singing grandmas and for a tasting of banitsa. From here, we will travel to Plovdiv, one of the oldest towns in Europe. During the city tour, you'll be able to discover the unique cultural and historical heritage such as the Ancient Roman Theatre, the Folk Art Museum and the St. Constantine and Helen Church. We will dine at the hotel.

October 22, 2018

Today we will travel toward Kazanlak, the center of rose-growing and famous for the rose oil and creams used internationally. We will visit the Rose Museum for a tasting of jams and rose brandy, as well as the Thracian tomb from the 4th century. Afterwards, we will continue with a scenic ride toward Schipka Pass and then on to Etar Museum, an outstanding open-air village museum where you can still witness craftsmen manufacturing souvenirs, jewels, and more. We will then transfer to Veliko Tornavo. Before arriving, we will stop for dinner with a folklore show in the nearby village of Arbanassi before checking-in to our hotel.

October 23, 2018

Today we discover the medieval capital of Bulgaria - Veliko Tornavo, which has history of more than 5,000 years. We'll visit the Tsaravets Fortress and the church of St. Demetrius. After the city tour, you will have leisure time to spend on the pedestrian street full of local arts and crafts. In the afternoon, we will depart toward Bucharest,the capital city of Romania and the sixth largest capital of the European Union. The city tour in Bucharest will take us to the most important sites such as the Arch of Triumph, the Victory Square, the Roman Square and the Unification Square. At the Constitution Square, we will see the Palace of Parliament which is the second largest building in the world! We will dine at a local restaurant.

Before leaving for Transylvania, Bucharest has one more surprise for you: The Mogosoaia Palace. This beautiful palace was built at the end of the 17th century by Prince Constantin Brancoveanu in the unique Brancovenesc style, a mix of traditional Romanian, Baroque and Oriental architectures. We will then travel toward Transylvania, crossing the breathtaking Carpathian Mountains. We'll stop in Cozia in order to visit the orthodox monastery constructed in the 14th century. In the afternoon you will arrive in Sibiu, listed by Forbes as one of the top ten most idyllic places to live in the world. The town was settled by German colonists in the 12th century and continues to preserve its medieval atmosphere. We will enjoy a walking tour starting at the Grand Square where you'll find the Catholic Church, City Hall and the Brukenthal Palace. We will continue to the Bridge of Liar's, Small Square and Huet Square. You can enjoy leisure time in the Old Town before we dine at our hotel.

October 25, 2018

Transylvania is famous for its castles, legends and fortified churches. This morning we will travel through small and pretty villages toward Biertan, where we will visit the largest fortified church built by the German Saxons in Transylvania. We will then transfer to Sighisoara and visit the Ecological Topa Farm. Ecological Topa Farm is about 10 km from Sighisoara, within the Albesti commune. The farm makes dairy products (simple cheese or herbs, sweet cheese, cream), vegetables, dried herbs for tea, and a series of traditional products such as jams and pickles, zucusa and various syrups. At the Zopa Organic Farm, all parcels of land are certified ecologically. This afternoon we will arrive in Sighisoara, the birthplace of Count Dracula and was settled by the Germans in the 13th century. It is still one of the rare inhabited medieval fortresses in the world and is protected by UNESCO. During the walking tour, you will visit the Clock Tower, the Church of the Hill and you will taste some local brandies. We will then check-in to our hotel and enjoy our dinner there.

October 26, 2018

This morning we will travel north of Sighisoara toward the village of Sovata where we will embark on a steam train ride through picturesque villages where we will enjoy authentic scenery of the Transylvanian countryside. The train will return to Sovata where we will continue our journey toward Brasov (known as the "Crown of Transylvania"). Before we reach Brasov, we will stop at a dairy farm and enjoy a lesson in cheese-making that has been passed on through the generations. We will reach Brasov in the afternoon - a town settled by the Teutonic knights in the 12th century. We'll visit the Black Church, the largest gothic church in Eastern Europe. We will dine at a local restaurant and enjoy a folklore show and wine tasting.

October 27, 2018

Romania boasts the largest population of bears (brown bears to be exact) in Europe! In order to learn more about these beautiful animals, we will visit the Bear Reservation in Zarnesti, the first of its kind in Romania where more than 70 brown bears reside. Our next stop will be in the small village of Bran, where we will visit the fairy-tale-like Dracula Castle and also attend the annual Halloween Party! Before our visit, we'll spend some time in the Tea House of the Dracula Castle garden and enjoy a tea break and snacks. The Castle was built at the end of the 14th century and served as customs between Wallachia and Transylvania. The legend says that Dracula lived here but history confirms the Royal Family spent its summers inside the Castle. We will return to Brasov after the Halloween Party.

October 28, 2018

In the morning, we will visit one of the most beautiful castles in the world - the Peles Castle. The castle was built at the end of the 19th century by the German King Carol I and served as the summer royal residence until 1947. Today, the castle is an outstanding museum preserving the original furniture, decorations and paintings. In the nearby village of Busteni, we will enjoy lunch at the Cantacuzino Castle with a spectacular view of the mountains from the terrace. In the the next town, we will enjoy some of the best sparkling wines, directly from the Royal Cellar in Azuga. We'll then transfer to Bucharest with a farewell dinner at one of the most historic restaurants in Old Town.

October 29, 2018

Today, we will be transferred to the international airport in Bucharest where we will say good-bye to our local guide and depart on our returning flights home. Depart any time you wish but remember, we must be checked out of the hotel by noon.

You must be independent and able to walk, climb stairs, and participate fully in all excursions. We cannot accommodate special needs such as walkers, wheelchairs, and the like due to our inability to ensure accessibility in our destinations.

Agents who do not have their own card, may submit a letter on agency letterhead signed by the agency or host agency owner verifying that Agent is active and in good standing. No MLM agents will be accepted for this FAM.

Each Agent is eligible to bring one ADULT non-travel agent companion at the Companion rate. There are no triple or quadruple occupancy rooms/rates available.
