Sip & Serve, September 8, 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., Sugar Creek Brewing Company: Understanding the issues that face our community is a critical step to engagement. We invite you to come to meet some of the nonprofit leaders in our city tackling food insecurity, affordable housing, equity and inclusion, and child advocacy. Children’s and Youth Choirs: Rehearsals Begin This Week: Click the links to register. Rehearsing on Wednesdays beginning September 8: Tinkerbells (handbells for K-2nd Graders), Alleluia Choir (K-1st Graders), Junior Choir (2nd-5th Graders). Rehearsing on Sundays beginning September 12: Junior Bells (handbells for 3rd-5th Graders), Youth Bells (handbells for 6th-12th Graders), and Youth Choir (6th-12th Graders). Join a Small Group, beginning September 9: As we begin to resume “normalcy,” we are all eager to be together for study. In-person and virtual book studies, Bible studies, and clergy-led discussion groups are forming. Click here to learn more and register.

Youth Server Ministry Trainings, September 11, 10:00 a.m. and September 26, 2:00 p.m., Sanctuary: Fifth-twelfth graders are invited to train to serve as Bible carriers, acolytes, and crucifers during sanctuary worship services. Attendance at only one training is needed, and at least one parent must attend to learn about scheduling and other ministry guidelines. New - Youth Sunday Mornings: Starting Point, September 12, 9:45 a.m.-10:45 a.m., Jubilee Hall: After a one-week break, Starting Point, a new spin on youth Sunday School, returns. Youth will gather for doughnuts and coffee and then participate in exciting interactive stations and group discussion.

New - Children’s Chapel: Parents, we love seeing you and your children worshipping together, and we want to support you as your children grow and learn to worship alongside you. A child’s transition from worship care to sanctuary worship can be a challenging one for both the child and the parents. To help ease this transition for the whole family, we are introducing Children’s Chapel for younger elementary children. Beginning September 12, children in grades K-2 attending the 11:00 a.m. worship service may leave the sanctuary during the Gloria Patri to watch the rest of the worship service with other children in Memorial Chapel. Children will be supervised by a clergy member and an adult volunteer. For more information, email Dr. Uiyeon Kim at ukim@mpumc.org.

New Times - Youth Sunday Nights: Sunday night gatherings for youth return September 12. Here is the schedule: 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.: 8th Grade Confirmation meets in Jubilee Hall; 6:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m.: All youth (including Confirmands) gather for fellowship, worship, and a snack bar in Jubilee Hall; 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.: 6th and 7th graders and high schoolers meet. Confirmands are welcome to stay and participate during this time.

New Adult Sunday School Class Begins, September 12, 9:45 a.m., room 107: Fall is a great time to find an adult Sunday school class. A new class will begin after Labor Day, and all ages and stages of life are welcome! If you want more information about this or other established classes, email Rev. New - Faith Girls for 5th Grade Girls, Sundays beginning September 12, 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.: Fifth-grade girls are invited to this eight-week Bible-based study. Facilitated by Rev. Taylor Pryde Barefoot, this group will explore Liked: Whose Approval Are You Living For? by Kari Kampakis and dive into topics such as social media, friends, identity, and faith while enjoying fellowship with each other. New - God's Guys for 5th Grade Boys Needs an Adult Leader: We are looking for 1-2 adult males to serve as small group leaders for God's Guys, our eight-week Bible-based study for fifth grade boys that will meet this fall on Sundays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you are interested in this opportunity, email Amy Jo Alspaugh at amyjo@mpumc.org.

In-Person Study of the Old and New Testament, Wednesdays, beginning September 15, 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.: Disciple Fast Track is a 24-week overview of the Bible in a small-group setting. Join Our Team Traveling to Faith Ministry, sign up by September 25: Join our team traveling to Faith Ministry in Reynosa, Mexico to build a house for a family and experience days of joyful labor, sweat equity, meaningful worship, and connection. The trip is open to anyone 16 and over who has been vaccinated. We will lodge and take meals at Faith Ministry. The cost of the trip is $600 plus airfare. New - 4th and 5th Graders: Sign Up Now for Forward, first Sundays of the month beginning October 3, 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.: Through this ministry 4th and 5th graders will grow faithfully in fellowship and deepen their spiritual foundation as they get ready for middle school. New - Sign Up Now for High School Beach Retreat, October 29-31, Holden Beach: This retreat is about resting, relaxing, and resetting. It will be a wonderful weekend of renewal. Bus Station Ministry, Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m.: Welcome legal asylum seekers as they journey through Charlotte. Your gifts of welcome and presence can be a real blessing to these tired, anxious, and uncertain travelers. Pick up snacks, water, activities, hygiene supplies, and signage at the church on Wednesday mornings and meet bus #1098 at the Greyhound bus station at 518 W 4th Street. Travel with Dr. Howell to Israel, April 23-May 3, 2022: Spring is a beautiful time of year to be in Israel! The cost, which includes flights, hotels, ground costs, and most meals, will be about $4,395. We say “about” as we can only guess at flights right now. Could be less! Probably not more. Help Afghanistan Refugees: Together with Catholic Charities we are welcoming Afghan families en route to Charlotte and are collecting the following items to ease their transition: Food Lion or Walmart grocery cards, Amazon or Walmart gift cards, laptops or Amazon tablets, new tea sets, new cookware sets, new children's toys or bicycles, and shoes. You may drop off these items at the church Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may also make a financial donation online (select Refugee Ministry from the drop-down menu) or by check (write Refugee Ministry in the memo line) and mail it to 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte NC 28207.
