How is the Epiphany is Celebrated in other coUntries? Camilla Osorio | January 13, 2017

January 6th is a National Holiday in Colombia, and it officially marks the end of the holiday season. This particular holiday is known as the Día de los Reyes Magos -- Three Kings Day or the Epiphany.

When January 6 approaches, Colombians make many preparations for this particular day. After December the 31st, children start writing letters to their favorite Wise Man or Rey Mago. In the letters, they ask Balthazar, Melchor, and Gaspar for presents.

The real celebration is at nighttime when the streets are flooded with people celebrating. Soon after, the floats and magi on camels appear and greet everyone before reenacting the Nativity scene.
