Evergreen Weekly Updates
Worship at Evergreen
Guest Preaching Series
We continue to welcome two incredibly gifted speakers to Evergreen! Rev. Dr. Mary Hulst and Pastor Rich Ferreira will each be teaching at Evergreen for several weeks in the next few months. Pastor Mary is the University Pastor at Calvin University and will teach out of the book of Philippians on six Sundays this fall. Rich is the General Manager of GTI Tours and will be teaching on the geography, life, and locations of Jesus on five Sundays. We look forward to the new insights and perspectives that Mary and Rich will provide. Come check them out!
Join us for worship at 10AM!
Message: "Called to Follow Even in the Chaos"• Pastor Rich Ferreira • Matthew 4:18-22, Luke 5:1-11, John 21
Join us this Sunday as Rich Ferreira joins us again to walk us through Jesus in his world. Rich will explore how we can better acknowledge our call to follow Jesus even amidst life's chaotic times. We look forward to welcoming Rich back on Sunday.
For the next three weeks, we are encouraging the Evergreen community to join us in worship through Zoom, where we will continue to livestream the service from Evergreen's auditorium. The auditorium, however, will still be open and welcome for those of you who are unable to worship with us on Zoom or would prefer to be in the physical space at Evergreen on Sunday mornings. We will continue to require masks at all times in the building during Sunday morning worship. For the next three weeks, we will not be providing kids ministry, but we hope to be able to provide kids ministry again in the near future!

We are going to have communion together!
We will be providing individually wrapped communion elements for each family member at Evergreen. If you are joining us through Zoom, we would love for you to use elements you have at your disposal, whether that is bread, crackers, juice, or something similar. We’re so thankful to be able to celebrate communion together in person and from a distance!
Can't make church at 10AM?
Welcome to our guided worship collection. In these links, you will find songs, scripture, and a message from current weeks, and also weeks past. All of this content will be matched up with the worship that we will be doing together on Sunday mornings. We understand that gathering together at a certain time, whether that be in person or on Zoom, isn't always realistic for everyone, but we also believe in the importance of participating in worship regularly and consistently. We hope that this provides a space for you to worship God regularly and consistently in the times we can't be gathered together. If you would like to hear recordings of previous sermons, go to www.egm.org/egm-sermons.
Are you looking for ways to connect gospel stories with your kids at a time when normal childhood programming isn't available? Check out our family activity guide, which has simple and easy activities that make it easy to communicate the truths of the gospels to your kids!
Giving at Evergreen
Evergreen is working hard to continue to care well for our church and our community. Like many businesses, families, and organizations, the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 virus put churches in a difficult financial situation. If you would like to give financially in the weeks in which we are unable to gather, you can do so by clicking this button:
4 Corners Offering
This fall, we are partnering with Kids Coalition Against Hunger for our corners offering. Kids Coalition Against Hunger is an organization that looks to fight against child hunger both locally, nationally, and globally. After our pop can drive, we are now back to collecting money on Sunday mornings to help purchase supplies to pack meals.
Due to the changing COVID restrictions, we will no longer be hosting a Thanksgiving Service. Instead, we will be providing a guided worship oppurtunity for you or your family to engage in together during a Thanksgiving celebration. A portion of that worship experience could require a sky lantern. Those lanterns are available at Evergreen's office. Stop and pick one up before Thanksgiving weekend!
Youth Ministry Update
With all of the new and changing information in regards to spikes in COVID cases in West Michigan and around the state, Evergreen has decided to cancel all in-person youth ministry gatherings until January 5. At Evergreen, we care deeply about the holistic care and development of our students. We understand the role that many different adults play in forming students in their mental, emotional, and spiritual development. We are thankful for the ways teachers, coaches, counselors, become the hands and feet of Jesus for our students every single day.
For the last several weeks. Hospital leaders and school administrators have been requesting a pause on all non-school events while West Michigan seeks to better control COVID cases in our schools and medical centers. By postponing our last four weeks of large-group gatherings, we believe that we can help curb the COVID spread amidst our communities, and hopefully, play a part in helping get students back into classrooms as soon as possible.
We also believe this to be especially important during a holiday season when many families are gathering together with other family members of all ages from different towns and cities to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas. By eliminating another weekly point of contact with students from other households, schools, and communities, we are able to play our part in reducing risk for the more vulnerable members of our student's families. We are incredibly grateful for the weeks of ministry we were able to have with your students during this first semester. During a summer with so many changing variables, we weren't even sure we'd have the opportunity to meet in person at all.
Thank you for your continued grace and flexibility with our student ministries during this semester. While this has been a difficult decision to make, we are confident that putting a pause on our last four weeks of gatherings to end the year will benefit students and leaders come January. Please be in touch with our staff or your students leaders with any specific needs your students have at this time!
Gobble Hobble 5K
Due to COVID conditions, we will not be doing a typical Thanksgiving morning race this year. However, we will still be having a virtual Gobble Hobble during the entirety of Thanksgiving weekend. You can register below and we will have your packets and t-shirts available beginning November 23. You can then run your 5k at any point during Thanksgiving weekend and you can share your photos with #gobblehobble2020.
Jack and Cindy Ippel are in their eighth year of serving as volunteers at Rehoboth Christian School, located just outside of Gallup, New Mexico. Most of the school's 460 students are Native American, coming from a 3000 square mile area that includes the Navajo and Zuni reservation as well as one of the poorest counties in the US. The Ippels know that they are making a difference in coming alongside the staff of Rehoboth in their roles within the development, maintenance and teaching departments. Your support is so important in giving financial help to so many families who want a Rehoboth education for their children but just don’t have the means to do so.
Evergreen Small Groups
We all walk through life yearning to be known, valued, and loved. By spending time with people who are willing to get to know us deeply and purposefully, we allow those relationships to create radical growth and change in our faith. Evergreen has several small group opportunities to explore this fall! If you are interested in any of these in-person or online communities, click the link below.
We are thrilled to welcome a new member to the Evergreen team! Rob Janke began his work as our new Recovery Ministry Lead. Rob has been a Seminary Intern for our Recovery Ministries for the past year and we're excited for him to join our staff in this capacity!
We are excited to continue offering Recovery services at Evergreen! We are meeting indoors at Evergreen every Sunday evening at 6:15pm in the Sycamore Room! Masks will be required and available if you don't have one. Bridge to Life groups and 12-Step meetings are back to meeting onsite at Evergreen as well. Click the buttons below if you need to be connected to a group. You can contact Rob Janke with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
