Tackling Text and Evidence-Based Writing MCIU Professional Learning Network

MCIU's Tackling Text and Evidence-Based Writing PLN is a community of educators from Montgomery County who will be focused intentionally on not just the product known as TDA but on the process of text-dependent analysis. In other words, this is not just about the assessment. It is about instruction!

As a county, we will be working together to grow common understanding of the best practices related to TDA in terms of its three overarching components -- reading comprehension, analysis, and essay writing. Because this PLN is about growing ourselves and, therefore, growing our students, this work will involve classroom application and the collection of evidence. Each independent classroom application will be followed up by a 90-minute Zoom meeting in which we will debrief, reflect on our learning, and adjust instruction. Participants will be supported throughout this process by one of MCIU's Project Consultants for Literacy and Instructional Coaching.

The goal is for our PLN to truly blossom into a community. This is not one and done PD. We are going to support each other throughout the year, sharing resources and ideas. In fact, last year, we began to curate our resources via Schoology so that those who participate have access to all of the expertise in our county. Participants of last year's Tackling Text PLN cohort will even be able to opt in for a second year of support, and, at times, may join the 19-20 conversation. After all, we have a lot to learn from each other as we help support our students in being critical thinkers!
