Biogeochemical Cycles Matthew johnson

TheWater Cycle

The Water Cycle is the process of water circulating between the earths atmosphere, oceans, and land in the forms of precipitation, condensation, evaporation, drainage, and transpiration.

Inorganic: There is only inorganic components in the water cycle which include the air and the soil in an area.

The Carbon Cycle

The Carbon Cycle is the process that allows carbon compounds are intertwined in the environment usually through carbon being taken in by plants using photosynthesis and being released through respiration and the decay of dead organisms. The carbon cycle is seen is photosynthesis Photosynthesis is [CH2O] + O2 + H2O.

Organic: Two organic components of the carbon cycle are plants and dead animals.

Inorganic: Three inorganic components of the carbon cycle are rocks, air, and soil.

The Nitrogen Cycle

The Nitrogen Cycle is the process of nitrogen being consumed and released back into the environment through nitrogen fixation, decomposition, ammonification, nitrification, denitrification. Fixation is when nitrogen gas (N2) from the atmosphere is incorporated into the tissue of certain plants.

Organic: Two organic components of the nitrogen cycle are dead animals and plants.

Inorganic: Three inorganic components of the nitrogen cycle are rocks, air, and soil.

The Phosphorus Cycle

The Phosphorus Cycle is the process of phosphorus moving through the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere but unlike the other biogeochemical cycles, the phosphorus cycle does is not significantly effected by the atmosphere. The reactions of the phosphorus cycle include substitution, oxidation, addition, elimination, and oxidative (which combines oxidation and addition).

Organic: Two components of the phosphorus cycle are plants and animals

Inorganic: Two components of the phosphorus cycle are rocks and weathering.
