Mocking Jay MOVIE VS BOOK

The Book

Mocking Jay is the 3rd book of a series. The first book is called The Hunger Games, while the second book is called The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and the author of all of them is Suzanne Collins. The book tells the story of a girl named Katniss Everdeen, who plays a major role in a worldwide civil war. She has been in 2 hunger games, a game where tributes are put in a big arena and fight to the death, so she is very skilled. In this book she is fighting for freedom with many other survivors of the war along with her best friend Gale. There are also many conflicts being thrown at her as well with the worst one being her lover/partner in the games Peeta. The book is like many other books, it has a exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and a resolution. Mocking Jay is very good book with a outstanding story in my opinion.

The Movie

There have been a total of 4 movies in The Hunger Games series. They were, The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 1, and The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2. The movies have the same story as the books but not all the same events. The movie consists of all the same characters also. Katniss is played by Jennifer Lawrence, Peeta is played by Josh Hutcherson, and Gale is played by Liam Hemsworth. The story is basically the same Katniss and Peeta have survived 2 Hunger games and are now in a civil war while Peeta was captured by the Capitol. The Capitol is who the rebels are fighting against in The Hunger games and they arrange the games. They also have split the remaining human population into 12 districts as well. The movies are very good and have a good story just like the books.

Differences Between The Book and Movie

(Spoilers Ahead)

There are many differences that are in the books and movies. I have noticed a few also. Most movies that are based off of books usually are not the same in every way. There could be small differences or huge differences.

Here are a few:

  • When Katniss agrees to be the mocking jay she has a list of requests before agreeing. In the movie her list didn't have all of the requests listed in the book. I noticed this because she made a joke about the cat at the end of the list in the movie and i found it funny the first time, but in the book the cat was the first thing to come up and there was extra things after.
  • There is a character named Pollux in both the movie and book and he cant talk. He wants Katniss to sing when they were camping in the forest. In the movie he points at his lips to look like singing, while in the book he writes sing in the mud.
  • In both the movie and book, there is a character named Beetee. He is paralyzed and in a wheelchair in the movie but in the book it says he can actually walk.
  • When Katniss kills Coin in the book Gale gives her one last arrow to represent the last shot of the war. In the movie however, he doesn't do this and when she kills Coin, she has a full quiver.
  • In the book, Gale has different feelings toward Peeta when his brainwashed interviews are aired live than in the movie.
  • Most of the special training taken place in district 13 by Katniss's team are completely taken out of the movies.

Although these are the small differences between them, there are lots and lots more differences between the book and the movie, especially with the other books and movies.

Which is better, the book or the movie?

This is my personal opinion, but i definitely have to say the movie is better. People may argue saying the books are better, but that is what makes the world better, everyone has their own opinion! Both the book and the movie are great, but to me the movie is better because i prefer watching over reading, but the book has lots more detail so you can make a picture in your mind. I have my reasons for liking the movie more, but people have theirs for liking the books and i have no problem with that! I really recommend the Hunger Games series, the movies and the books. I have got to give the movies and the books a 10/10!
