9th Sunday After Pentecost August 2nd, 2020

These are the lessons of the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost. The Old Testament reading and Psalm speak of God's testing his chosen recipients of blessing, reminding us that God disciplines the children he loves and actively grows them in righteousness. In the epistle, Paul testifies to the continuity of the covenant from the Old Testament to Christ Jesus, the Messiah who feeds the hungry in the gospel.

May the Lord bless us through the renewing of our minds by the reading of His word.

A Prayer

Glorious God, beyond all seeing and knowing, we meet you in the night of change and crisis, and wrestle with you in the darkness of doubt. Awaken in us a hunger for food to satisfy both heart and soul, that in the miracle of being fed we may be empowered to feed the hungry in Jesus' name. Give us the will and spirit to live faithfully and love as we are loved. Amen.
