Attendance

Class attendance this week is:

Class Assemblies

Listed below are the assemblies that will take place up to Summer. Most assemblies will take place at 2.50 pm in the School Hall. Please join us if you can.

Sports Days

Well we got there at last - two fantastic sports afternoons this week.

This year infant children participated in more events than we have ever seen before. These included throwing, jumping, running, balancing and an obstacle course. We saw lots of examples of wonderful sportsmanship and team effort from everyone. A huge well done and thank you for parent participation too!

The sun truly shone for KS2’s sports afternoon. Children had a great afternoon completing races in the sunshine. Well done to red team who won both the KS1 and KS2 Sports Days.

Thank you to all parents who came along to support; children do really appreciate seeing you. Also, thanks to PTFA for their efforts in raising some monies for school by selling cold drinks!

Tennis

On Wednesday, the Year 5/6 Tennis Team competed in a tournament at Blackburn Northern Tennis Club. With some superb tennis, they made it through to the semi-final against Westholme. Unfortunately they didn’t progress through to the final. However, in the 3rd place playoff, they managed to overcome The Redeemer and School was thrilled to secure the bronze medal! Well done to the team.

Cross Country

Last night our cross country team competed in their final event of the year. It was a very hot afternoon and everyone performed brilliantly, showing determination to complete a difficult course in tough conditions.

As this was the final event of the year there were awards for both individual and team positioning. Our Year 5/6 boys’ team came third overall, Year 3/4 boys’ came second and our Year 3/4 girls’ team won their competition! We also had an individual winner with Oliver coming third out of all Year 5/6 boys this year!

Parent Governor Role

During the Autumn Term, we will be undertaking elections for our Parent Governors. The Parent Governor role is an important one and adds a great deal of value to the school by ensuring that there is a parent voice on the Governing Body. Previous Parent Governors have played various roles in school, ranging from attending school trips and plays, organising the PTFA and being part of working groups to improve attendance in the school.

The only criteria that are required are 1) Having parental responsibility for a child within school and 2) enthusiasm to help improve the school.

We are therefore looking for committed individuals, who are willing to give up some of their time to ensure that Avondale School continues to thrive. More formal details will be issued when we commence the election process in the Autumn Term, but if you would consider applying and would like some more information, please feel free to contact Iain Schofield (iain.schofield@avondale.blackburn.sch.uk)

Parent Volunteers

In preparation for the new academic year, we were wondering if any parent would like to volunteer to assist in school. Ideally, this would be on a regular basis – once or twice a week and in the same class. This could be to offer reading or general classroom support.

If you are interested please contact Mrs Taylor, Assistant Headteacher, or pass your contact details via the office.

Lost Property

Please come and look through the lost property mountain if you have misplaced any items.

Blackburn Rovers Football Club Awards

Tonight is BRFC’s Awards Dinner. Avondale has been nominated for an outstanding school award and Mrs Mears has been shortlisted for Individual Primary Star of the Year Award. We will let you know next week if we are successful.
