Introduction To Asteroids wso steam week by martha and larissa

WHAT IS AN ASTEROID AND HOW ARE THEY FORMED?

An asteroid is a small rocky object orbiting the sun. Asteroids are left over from the formation of our solar system created 4.6 billion years ago. our solar system formed 4.6 billion years ago when a big cloud of dust collapsed. when it happened most of the material fell to the centre of the cloud and formed the sun. some condensing dust in the cloud became planets. The objects in the asteroid belt never got the chance to be incorporated into planets. They are leftovers from that time long ago when our solar system was formed.

WHERE EXACTLY ARE ASTEROIDS LOCATED?

Asteroids are located in a place called 'The asteroid belt' which is located between Mars and Jupiter. Although most asteroids are located in between mars and jupiter, some asteroid are found in the orbital path of a planet which means the asteroid and the planet follow the same path around the sun.
