Serin and Ortega-Rosales Elected to PESD Board Leadership Positions Award-winning board continues to “bee-lieve” in the students, staff, families and communities it serves

The Pendergast District board continues its vision of greatness by “empowering excellence and success” with the election of new officers, Susan Serin, President and Hilda Ortega-Rosales, Vice-President of the governing board.

By statute, board elections are held during the first board meeting in January of the New Year. At the January 15, 2019 meeting, Susan Serin and Hilda Ortega-Rosales were elected as the board officers by their peers. Jose Arenas, Senator Martin Quezada and Jete White round out the five member board. Board members Susan Serin and Senator Martin Quezada were sworn in as re-elected board members and Jete White was sworn as a newly elected board member as of the November 2018 election.

Serin has served as a board member in PESD for the past 30 years and works for Farmer’s Insurance Company. Ortega-Rosales is a school administrator in the Tolleson Union High School District. Their children all attended Pendergast District schools.

Dr. Lily Matos DeBlieux, Pendergast superintendent, heartily thanked and welcomed the board and shared many of the accomplishments the district has to be proud of including: the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math, as well as the Dual Language Academies throughout the district, Superintendent’s Eighth Grade Council and amazing staff focused on the educational opportunities for the students. “Board members work tirelessly as volunteers to serve their schools and communities. They live as examples of education advocates and servant leaders. We are so fortunate to have a board totally committed to doing what is right for the students, staff, families and communities we serve.”
