NEWS FROM THE COUNTRYSIDE MONTESSORI MIDDLE SCHOOL weekly updates on what's going on in the community

As some of you may already know, the Middle School Community is starting to incorporate student interviews into the Middle School newsletters. This week, we interviewed Willem Aspinall. Willem is an eighth grader who will be going to Beacon Academy in Evanston when he graduates. Willem has been at Countryside since he was an infant, so nearly 14 years. His mother, Mrs. Aspinall, works in the All Year Montessori program, commonly known as AYM. His father works in the office here as well.

Willem is a great fish enthusiastic, and some of his favorite hobbies include fishing or fish keeping. He has a 28 gallon fish tank in his room which he takes care of on a regular basis. He is a very intelligent student who highly enjoys reading books of great sophistication. His favorite book series is The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. He also enjoys reading books on war and history. His current favorite subject here at CMS is Science… although that can change quite frequently. His favorite thing about Countryside is the Micro Economies we do. He is on the eBay Store team along with the Yearbook Committee. The reason why Middle Schoolers manage these Micro Economies is to raise money for our Community. Willem enjoys these Micro Economies, as it lets him deal with real life situations he may face in the near future.

In Spanish, we are learning the future, present, and past tense verbs. We made games to help us remember them. One of the games was verb tic tac toe. One person chooses the verb tense and the verb. The student whose turn it is decides the pronoun they will use and makes a sentence. If the sentence is correct they get to put an X or O in the pronoun’s space.

In math the seventh graders are working on binomials and trinomials. We do some math assignments on a program called ALEKS. This unit will be a short one, but after they will start on doing something called SHELL math. SHELL math is worksheets that have different word problems on them. For example you might need to figure out 10 problems, and then figure out how to graph those problems. Math is a very fun class where we all get to learn so much.
