The Site Survey and Site Assessment
In order to produce an accurate design for your garden we need to create a scale drawing of the site. We will therefore commission a full site survey, either carried out by ourselves or an external surveyor, depending on the scale of the site.
Following the survey an accurate scale drawing of your garden is created, acting as the basis of all future drawings.
The Design Consultation
We will meet with you for an in depth discussion about your specific requirements, discussing the feel and style you would like to achieve and how you would like to use your new garden.
Following the consultation we will translate our notes into the final design brief.
The Draft Design Proposal
We will prepare and present some initial drawings and sketches accompanied by mood boards, all of which aim to convey the overall look and feel of your new garden design. At this stage we present preliminary budget costs.
Your feedback and comments will be taken and modifications made to the design if required before we proceed to finalising the design and planting.
The Master Plan
The final design plan presents ideas in an attractive and easily understood format, showing the design of the space in plan form, with three dimensional views and elevations where needed. Materials will be considered and specific heights will be noted where appropriate.
Setting Out Plan
A fully dimensioned plan of the design including all measurements and levels within the garden will be produced to enable the landscapers to set out the garden correctly and will be invaluable for estimating the amounts of materials required to build the garden.
If the design for your new garden includes and particularly complex hard landscaping features it may be necessary to design them in greater detail, and at a greater scale, before they can be built. As these elements are an unknown quantity at this stage, this section of the work would be discussed and agreed in advance before work commences at an hourly rate.
Planting Plans and Schedule
Another essential element of our design service is to produce detailed decorative planting plans and schedules to accompany the spatial design. This plan will show you which plants are to be used to create the style and feel of your garden, their location, spacing and how many are required. We will select plants according to their colour, fragrance, texture, growth habit and size best suited to the specific conditions in the garden and, most importantly, to your requested style and maintenance levels. As the number of planting beds are an unknown quantity at this stage, this section of the work would be discussed and agreed in advance before work commences at an hourly rate.
When the finalised design is signed off, we complete a written specification and scope of work as well as designing any systems that are required including electrical, lighting, irrigation etc. This information is essential for the landscaper to accurately quote.
Plant Sourcing Service
Blue Tulip Garden Design offers a comprehensive Plant Sourcing Service, in collaboration with established and highly rated trade nurseries with whom we have been working for several years. As a valuable customer, we have been able to negotiate for you to buy plants directly from our suppliers at trade prices, with the nursery invoicing you directly, while we charge a set fee for the Plant Sourcing service as outlined below.
Based on the planting plan we will compile a plant schedule, specifying sizes and quantities of each plant. We will send this schedule to a number of our trusted growers and specialist nurseries in order to obtain for you the best quality plants and the best price. Our many years of sourcing plants have given us a trusted network of suppliers and growers, allowing us to tap into an extensive network across the country and into Europe.
Occasionally due to variations in the supply chain, certain plants may not be available. We will work with growers to find plants that can be substituted in the planting plan to give you the same effect.
We will visit nurseries to personally select the larger specimens and key plants for your scheme.
We will personally inspect all plants to ensure that they meet the quality we expect, either at the nursery or on delivery.
We will work with the landscaper to ensure that the plants are delivered at the correct time to be planted immediately.
We will be on site to carefully set out all the plants in their final positions, ready for the landscape team to plant them.
The plant sourcing fee offers you a significant saving on normal plant costs.
