Headteacher Weekly Update 3/9/18 - 7/9/18

What amazing charity work from the pupils and staff who took part in the Pretty Mudder event this weekend. It is amazing to see staff and pupils working together for a fantastic cause - Cancer Research UK.

Being an outstanding school is not just about what we do in the classroom. This event not only supported a charity, it developed relationships, built leadership and promoted health and wellbeing. Well done to everyone involved!

Outdoor Learning

Learning was taken outside the classroom this week, with trips locally and abroad. Below our pupils are learning about the eco systems at Devon Wetlands. Our young people were supported by Alison Leanord from the RSPB.

Battlefields

Outdoor learning also took place with our pupils and staff visiting Battlefields in Belgium and France.

The pupils and staff will never forget this experience which paid respect to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in saving our future.

Many of the pupils were able to identify their great, great, great grandparents memorials. Many of these relatives travelled from Alloa to fight for our freedom.

Heart Start

Clackmannanshire schools are launching a new initiative to ensure all school pupils and staff are offered training in CPR.

Our pupils supported the launch event which took place at Lornshill Academy.

We look forward to offering this important learning experience into our curriculum in Alloa Academy.

Leadership at Alloa

Our Senior Leaders took part in a Leadership Team Building day at Dunbar House. The active learning tasks challenged our seniors and hopefully inspired them to see the value in leadership and service to the school community. Thank you to the staff who supported this event, and I look forward to our seniors taking the lead!

Anti-Bullying

Mrs McNeil (Pupil Support PT) has done an amazing job leading our consultation on Anti-Bullying, with pupils and parents.

Alloa Academy welcomed Mr Brian Donnelly (Strathclyde Uni) who has a wealth of experience of supporting schools and government (Respect Me) challenge issues of bullying in schools. Brian spoke with our families and young people about our plans for supporting any issues in Alloa Academy. This aims to ensure positive relationships are at the heart of our work.

Progress

Well done Mr Robertson for supporting the promotion of our new Tracking, Monitoring and Reporting System. Exciting times ahead!

Great News

Well done to Jack McAllister who will represent Forth Valley Football.

Kind regards

Colin Bruce
