Charlotte, North Carolina may just be the home of the Carolina Panthers, a place to go shopping, or a weekend vacation in the city for some people but for the first five years of life I called that city my home. When I was five years old my family packed up everything in a big, white moving van and left to come to Johnson City. We wanted to be closer to my mom's family in Dandridge, TN but not right on top of them. From there on I went to a small school which meant everyone knew everyone and we got to grow up with one another.
I graduated from University School in May of 2016 as a member of the twelve year club so I have been on the ETSU campus for quite a long time. To be quite honest I never intended to stay here for college, but between scholarships and the opportunities I have here it seems like this is where I am meant to be.
Most of my free time has been spent in the dance studios of Trinity Arts Center. I have been doing ballet, jazz, pointe, and hip hop for the past eight years of my life. The thing I love most about it is getting to tell stories through dance. We are not just doing recitals where one group does a little dance and then another comes out and does something completely unrelated. We tell a story through movement and music that can reach people in a way that sticks with them.
My journey as a dancer has come to a bit of halt as I decided to take a break from it after I graduated high school. I have a reoccurring injury where my knee caps like to dislocate whenever they feel like it, and dancing six days a week did not help that. Now I spend most of my time in class or at First Christian Church where I work with the communications and marketing team on projects. I started working with them about a year ago coming in as someone who just liked to write and talk to people, and then my love for advertising and marketing sparked from there. Now, here I am at ETSU. My path so far seems to be centered around Johnson City and specifically this campus. I often used to wonder how life would be different if we had stayed in Charlotte, but now I am just looking towards the future and what is in store. For now I will just keep studying media and communications and try to tell the stories I am meant to tell. Wherever life takes me I know I will always carry a deep love for Gilmore Girls, Jesus, dance, and Pinterest.
