Paula Reams '82 Alumni Spotlight

Alumna Paula Wurster Reams advises nursing students to put full effort into their education and continue to serve their community after graduation. That’s exactly what she continues to do in her career and life.

Main Street, University of Cincinnati

Paula graduated in 1982 from UC College of Nursing with a bachelor’s and later earned a master’s from Wright State University, a post-master’s from Indiana State University and a PhD in higher education from University of Dayton.

When she graduated with a BSN, she worked at hospitals around Ohio and in North Carolina before she moved back to Cincinnati and worked for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. After a few years, she moved to Dayton with her husband and has since lived in the area.

Dayton, Ohio

Paula has worked at Kettering College, part of Dayton-based Kettering Health Network, since 1987. She currently chairs a BSN completion program and works in the network’s drop-in clinic for employees.

At Kettering College, Paula has participated in multiple mission trips – in and out of the country – and started a service-learning leadership program that requires students to complete a national and international service trip.

Service, Paula says, is “rent we pay for living” on this planet.

Outside of the college, Paula advises Capella University students working on their dissertations for their doctorate degrees. She is also hoping to start a free clinic at her church.

Paula says students and patients are the reason she does all of the things she does at work and in the community. She enjoys spending her limited free time with her two sons, daughter and granddaughter.

Undergraduate student Jon Hambrick interviewed Paula Reams as part of the Alumni Discovery Project at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing.
