The centennial of the Polish Physical Society Andrzej Kajetan Wróblewski (University of Warsaw)

The Polish Physical Society was established on April 11, 1920 in Warsaw.

I will reveal some new facts about the circumstances of this event. Then I will discuss the most important activities and achievements of the Society, resulting from the statutory provisions.

These are: Congresses of Polish Physicists, Popularization of Physics, PPS publications, including "Postępy fizyki", Awards and distinctions.

Andrzej Kajetan Wróblewski is a professor at the University of Warsaw (currently retired).

He was the university rector (1989-1993). He is a full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, an active member of Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, an honorary member of the Warsaw Scientific Society and the Polish Physical Society.

His scientific specialties are high energy physics (he introduced, among others, the strange quark suppression factor) and the history of physical sciences.

He is the author of the monographs "History of physics from the earliest times to the present day" (2006 and subsequent editions) and "History of physics in Poland" (2020).
