Lou Ann and Donald's Excellent Adventure Chapter 1

Hello, we are sending a few photos to our family and friends as we make our way through our adventure. We don't want to plug up your mailbox; however, we don't want to post on Facebook for security reasons. We hope you enjoy these postings.

We spent thirty hours in a plane flying from JFK to Melbourne. We started Jan. 30 but not sure what day we landed because we lost a day of time. Emirates was lovely the first leg with a new plane, lots of room and good food. The second leg was an older, packed plane.

We took Qantas to Cairns (pronounced Kerns) and then a bus onto Port Douglas. This trek was an "add-on" to our cruise. Even though we landed in monsoon season and thought the timing was slightly unfortunate, it turned out just fine.

The resort is stunning with all white rooms. Being low season, our group had the place almost to ourselves and spent time in the lovely pools that surrounded the rooms.

Port Douglas reminded us of Duvall Street in Key West though with abandoned streets in the late afternoon. Almost a ghost town. Many places were closed till the end of the monsoon season. As this is the entry of the Great Barrier Reef, we weren't particularly worried and were eager get out to the Barrier Reef. More about that in Chapter 2.
