Elon Musk, a South-African multimillionaire entrepreneur and one of the most successful businessmen, as well as the founder of the Tesla Motors company and SpaceX industries has been discussing the human colonization of Mars. His industries, SpaceX, have been spending two years about their crazy idea of colonizing on mars. Even though this sounds like a great idea, there are a lot of roadblocks in the way of this plan. One of the biggest problems is the financial aspect. Governments all around the world question the cost of Musk’s plan. Even Elon Musk has not guessed the price tag of colonizing on mars.
Elon Musk wants to have humans colonize Mars because he thinks that if Earth ever was in a world disaster, Mars could be our plan B. Elon Musk quoted,
“If there's something terrible that happens on Earth, either made by humans or natural, we want to have, like, life insurance for life as a whole.”
He also said that it could be fun and adventurous. Some people view this as a great idea, but others think Elon Musk and his plans are crazy, they believe that adventuring out into a different planet could be very dangerous.
Musk has estimated that in 2022, they will perform the first test of having a rocket land on mars. Elon Musk wants the rocket to hold cargo and machines so that when the rocket lands, the machines will provide essential needs for humans, like water, air, and food. He plans to reuse the rockets that landed on mars to save resources and cost. He has proven that we can reuse a rocket with his Falcon fleet. The rockets went up into space and then landed on aircraft in the water. He says that is the first step to many great things he can do is using reusable rockets. Elon Musk believes that in the near future, space travel from one country to another country will be possible.
In 2023, Elon Musk plans to activate another mission to have a rocket go around the moon and then come back and land safely. Although these are just ideas from Elon Musk, they are not guaranteed to take place. Space travel is not just a fun idea; it is very serious and requires more than the words of one person. Elon Musk will most likely have to get approval from the US Government and NASA. The cost of his plans are enormous and appears to be too big for Elon Musk to estimate.
