Hey there! Are you interested in climbing? Indoor rockclimbig is a good place to start

During the semester, MUMC runs a weekly social indoor climbing trip at NorthWalls. The idea is to rock up at NorthWalls climbing gym at 6pm and climbing till yer tired! To get there, take the tram up Sydney road, from the tram stop at the corner of Grattan and Flemington road. You need no experience and no gear! All gear can be hired at NorthWalls and their lovely staff will guide you through your safety induction :) Please join our climbing Facebook: OXO Indoor Climbers on Facebook! Alternatively, you can rock up on the night and say hi to any of us! We're happy to climb in 3s or introduce you to another so you can climb in pairs. One of us will be wearing an MUMC shirt/hoodie, or if we aren't, you can always ask the staff.

Save the Date! 28th of AUGUST: MUMC AGM

Interested in running for committee but you feel like you don't know enough about the roles/responsibilities?

Come along to the Q&A, committee members will give a brief overview of their role and will be available to ask questions.

Do you want to know what the Vice President does?....

You've got a badass new email address, your face is on the website and you feel like a big shot, all without the responsibilities of being the President. Really, there's not a lot on your plate that you have to do. But for exactly that reason, there's a lot that you can choose to do. Being in this role usually means you've been in a committee role already and people think you'd be the kind of person who's worth listening to. Support the President with the mountain of responsibility that's suddenly appeared on their lap. You'll want to understand what's going on in the club.

So you want to be a general member …

Get excited! It’s a great role to get into, if you’d like to start contributing to the club in a more official capacity and there’s plenty to do (and to not do, but more on that later). Whether you’re a new member that just wants to get involved, or a member that wants to give back, this role is open to you!

Dear future Publications Officer,

You will be the proud creator of the next edition of The Mountaineer. Being publications officer isn’t just about gaining a reputation for being the pestering publications officer. I had heaps of fun putting together two Mountaineers, reading awesome stories and always had an endless stock of amazing pictures. The Mountaineer serves numerous purposes, it is a historical account of the year. It records the development of Club members, their experiences and their accomplishments, a promotional tool, to introduce new members to our activities and to entice old ones to return, a means for contributors (mainly Convenors/Committee) to communicate to all Club members, a bargaining chip for potential advertising from commercial stores, a way to make mumc look great!

Follow Through!

People have opinions about skier Caroline Gleich: Inspirational. Gumby. Social media star. Role model. Model masquerading as a mountaineer. At sixteen, she stumbled upon a copy of the cult classic guidebook The Chuting Gallery. Irreverent and wonderfully arbitrary, the guidebook lays out a set of 90 ski mountaineering lines across Utah’s Wasatch Mountains. They were difficult and dangerous. When she first said out loud she wanted to ski them, she was met with laughter. “Maybe it was because I was five feet tall, or I was a little blonde girl, but I remember that clearly — and it didn’t feel good” says Gleich. After a decade building her skills, Gleich set out to complete her vision and become the skier she dreamt of being. “Follow Through” is a story of loss, belonging and desire for respect. In this age of hyperconnectivity, which voices do we choose to hear and which do we ignore?

Midnight Ascent 2018: Let's Get Animated

What is this Midnight Ascent?, - Only the premier event of the year! Put simply, Midnight Ascent is the annual club trip to our snow-surrounded MUMC hut at Mt Feathertop, where the 4-7hr uphill walk begins at midnight on Friday and all sanity is left at the carpark. Think fancy dress in the snow, think three-course meal from scratch, think some classic adventuring with all your friends. The full moon falls toward the end of August this year, and the trip will run on the 24th-26th August.
