Abortion By: Breanna Galindo

Throughout the world approximately 42 million abortions occur each year and that is approximately 115,000 abortions that occur each day(AbortionFacts). Abortion is the physical process of discontinuing a pregnancy. Therefore, abortion should be outlawed because adoption is an alternative, abortion leads to medical problems, and is considered murder. These concepts, are to be evaluated by mothers to decrease the number of abortions.

Abortion occurs when an unwanted pregnancy takes place, rather than stopping that pregnancy, there are other alternatives. Adoption is an alternative to abortion because it gives that child a chance to live in this world. Couples that cannot have children will adopt or even couples that want to provide a safe home for children will adopt. Statistics show that “...21,000 Ohio children are in foster care [and], half a million [go] to bed each night in homes that are not their own…”(Dewine). This shows that adopters will take children in and show them the love that they deserve. The choice of adoption gives children life rather than depriving that child of the chance to live and is an effective way to not permanently destroy the life of a child. Therefore, adoption is an alternative and is one way to decrease the number of abortions.

Another effect that abortion has is it leads to many physical and mental issues associated with the mother. The mother can be harmed physically if she gets the procedure done by a doctor or even worse done by herself. According to doctors, abortion causes “...bleeding which leads to infection and infertility…”(Shame, Guilt and Remorse). Therefore, if the mother plans on having a child later on in her life there is a chance that the fetus will not survive. Not only is the mother affected physically, but mentally as well. Mothers that have an abortion have to live with knowing they stopped their child's heart from beating. Mothers also have to live with great grief at the fact that they had an abortion. Research states that after an abortion mothers have “...shame, guilt, and deep remorse [which] sometimes leads to alcohol or drug [abuse](Shame, Guilt and Remorse). The idea that the mother took that last breath away from their child is hard for most women. Therefore after a mother has an abortion, she will suffer both mentally and physically. So if pregnant women evaluate the after effects abortion can lead to, then the average number of abortions will begin to decrease.

Abortion is murder. The fetus is alive in the mother's womb and is continually growing. The fetus is waiting to enter this world and when the mother has an abortion that then deprives that fetus. Fetuses can also feel pain just like others around the world that face physical pain. Research shows that a fetus faces an “...unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage…”(Bailey). Fetuses should have a right to remain unharmed and get a chance to live. Since a fetus feels pain they are considered a person that will survive in this world. If pregnant women evaluate the physical effects a fetus experiences thru abortion, then they will reconsider the thought of abortion. Therefore, the average number of abortions will begin to decrease if pregnant woman reconsider abortion and consider what the living fetuse encounters.

Call to Action:

The number of abortions will decrease if pregnant mothers know the effects that can occur after an abortion. When pregnant women are informed about adoption alternatives, the medical issues, and abortion is murder, then abortion practices will diminish. For those out there contemplating on abortion or feeling abortion should be outlawed, can make a call to action.
