Hayley Jones Portfolio

Hello, here's a little bit about me.

My name is Hayley Jones, and I am junior at Texas Tech University. I study public relations with a focus on sport media and I am working to obtain my minor in general business. I am involved in Kappa Kappa Gamma as the sisterhood chair and I work at the Marsha Sharp Center on campus as an athletic tutor. I have a passion for learning, photography and finding new ways to feed my curiosity about communication in our world today.

I enjoy working on social media, creating content and learning about media relations. And, of course, the rare luxury of sleep.

This page is designed to show a few pieces of work I've done while at Tech. Enjoy!

Current Coursework

Public Relations Writing

I am currently enrolled in a public relations writing class where each week we are assigned different styles of writing for a PR project of our choosing. I chose to create an event between the Dallas Cowboys and the Children's Health pediatric hospital in Dallas. Here are few writing samples from the semester so far.

These are executive bios I wrote for each company.

This is a news release for the field day event I created.

Here are the media advisory and media pitch provided for the event.

Next is a newsletter and talking points for radio interview.

Sports Public Relations

In my sports public relations course, we were assigned a Division II university to do PR for throughout the semester. I was assigned Lewis University. Attached are examples of my PR audit and a quick facts sheet.

PR Showdown 2017

The college of media and communications puts on an annual PR showdown where teams of 3-5 compete for a week through different challenges. Here are a few samples of work from the competition.

EarlIER Work

Special Topics: Olympics

I had the opportunity to take a class taught by Texas Tech alumnus and former United States Olympic Committee member, Robert Condron. In this one-week course, we had a competition to create a communication plan for Rio 2016. In groups of two, we had the opportunity to work with members of Team USA's media team. My plan was made for women's gymnastics. Out of the class, our communication plan won first place at the end of the week after being judged by a variety of professionals in the field.

Media Writing

One of my courses, media writing, had the objective to teach a variety of writing styles in the media field. Attached are examples of a strategic release and an informative writing sample.
