KARENNA GROFF EARNS NEWMAC OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AFTER TWO GAME WINNERS

Freshman Karenna Groff led the MIT women’s soccer team to a 2-0 week behind a pair of game winning goals. On Tuesday against Wellesley, Groff ripped a shot from 20 yards out with 57-seconds to play to lift MIT to a 3-2 win. Then on Saturday against Coast Guard, Groff’s goal in the fifth minute proved to be the game winner as the Engineers defeated the Bears, 4-0, to take over sole possession of first place in the league. Her two goals this week also moved her into a tie for third place in goals this year in the NEWMAC with eight.

CHRISTINA LIAO EARNS NEWMAC CO-OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK IN 4-0 WEEK FOR VOLLEYBALL

In a 4-0 week for MIT, Christina Liao tallied 150 assists, 22 digs, and four aces while the Engineers hit .349. She registered 48 assists, six digs, and an ace in a sweep of Clark last Tuesday. Liao opened the MIT Quad Tournament on Friday by posting 31 assists, seven digs, and three aces in a 3-0 win over King's. She then generated 38 assists and four digs in a 3-0 victory over Utica on Saturday. Liao followed this up with 33 assists, five digs, and two blocks in a sweep of Hunter, clinching the MIT Quad Tournament title and earning Tournament MVP honors.
