FATS DEVELOPING YOUR NUTRITIONAL KNOWLEDGE

Let's review Fibre from last lesson...

You have 5 minutes to answer the discussion question on Canvas relating to fibre and what you learnt last lesson. Go!

DID YOU KNOW: Fat in an egg is only found in the yolk. About 3 grams of healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat is found here.

FATS

There are 3 main types of fats found in the foods we eat. These include:

  1. SATURATED FAT = Bad fat found in animal products and processed foods
  2. MONOUNSATURATED FAT = Good fat found in avocados, some nuts and olive oil
  3. POLYUNSATURATED FAT = Good fat containing omega 3 fatty acids and omega 6 fatty acids found in fish, sunflower oil, some nuts and seeds

ACTIVITY: Using the video above and the information in your text on pages 41 and 42, complete the table in your workbooklet on page 13.

Get ready to cook....
We will be cooking Zucchini Fritters served with bacon, avocado salsa and poached eggs
DID YOU KNOW: Omega-3 fatty acids are required in human health but cannot be made by the body, so we must consume them. They are, therefore, called essential fatty acids.

HOMEWORK #4: You are to create 2 truths and a lie for each of the 3 kinds of fat in your workbooklet on page 14. An example, done with carbohydrates, is given below.....which are the two truths and which is the lie?

  • Carbohydrates are made from simple sugar units. The most common simple sugar that our body uses for energy is glucose
  • Another name for a simple sugar is a monosaccharide
  • The difference between low GI carbohydrate foods and high GI carbohydrate foods is due to the number of bonds that are found between the glucose molecules that they contain...
