Republic Brewing Company Brewing Up Good Beer and Local Jobs in Ferry County

Family-Owned Business

Republic, WA

Republic Brewing Company, a small brewery in the mining town of Republic, is the vision of Billy and Emily Burt. After six grueling years of hard-work and lost sleep, Billy and Emily were able to expand their business from a tiny brewing system to a large production system. The Rural Opportunities Loan Fund and Tri County Economic Development District (TEDD) provided a loan for the equipment and improvements on the building.

In 2016, the Burts were able to find a traditional lender to purchase the town’s historic Fire Hall which they had been leasing, but they struggled to find a lender to upgrade their brewing system. During the past summers when the tourist market was at its peak and customers were thirsty, the brewery would even run out of beer occasionally. It was time to grow.

But growing pains hit the brewery hard, when even though they carefully formulated an expansion plan, the couple struggled to find additional financing. Then they heard about the Rural Opportunities Loan Fund. Through the loan from TEDD, the couple was able to expand to a seven barrel brewing system and hire an additional employee.

In spring of 2017, the new brewing system was installed; and today, the family-operated brewery has expanded its hours and its employees, meeting the summer demand for on tap beer. For more information, visit the company's website at www.republicbrew.com.
