NEA-Salina April News Flash 2017

3 Ways to #BeTheHero

NEA-Salina President Jonathan Eshnaur

1. April is a special time for NEA-Salina and KNEA. Now until the end of the school year, any educator who is not a member can join for FREE. New members will have full membership privileges (voice in NEA-Salina, educator rights advocates, discounts, and more) except for legal services. Belonging to NEA-Salina supports educators throughout USD 305, CKCIE, and Kansas!

2. The Kansas Legislature will reconvene on Monday, May 1st. Two important issues still need to be resolved before the end of the session. The first legislators needs to pass a comprehension and long-term school finance formula that will provide our students with the schools they deserve. Second, legislators will need to find a way to solve the budget deficits and pay for increases in school funding. Keep any eye on Topeka; our representatives may need to hear you with emails from your home computer and phone calls encouraging them to support our students.

The next Salina Chamber of Commerce Legislative Forum is Saturday, May 20 at 8:30 a.m. in the Chamber Annex.

3. Get connected for negotiations! The NEA-Salina Negotiations Team exchanged letter of intent to negotiate with USD 305 on Friday, March 31st. Currently, the team is working on developing proposals on areas that the negotiations team identified as needs based on the survey data collected. The NEA-Salina team is working diligently to set a date for negotiations sessions with USD 305. Please take time now to connect with NEA-Salina so you know what is going on with our students' learning conditions!
