Lizzie's Number the Stars Book Diary By Lizzie

I think the war is when two nations are fighting for land or their rights.

In World War ll, people in those countries probably felt nervous and scared that they might die every second they see something suspicious. Or when they smelt something maybe burning or too delicious that they wouldn't be thinking that it might be poisoned. And then they die by poison in their food. Or when something noisy comes running straight for you.Or when you feel something strange such as a weapon of the enemy and then it's too late to run.

When I think about neighbors I think about giving out treats and having parties!

If planes of the enemy where flying over my house I would take my family (and my cats) to the safest place possible... The Woods.

Number the Stars

I think from the amazing race that number the stars will be about the war and a leader who abuses power.

Literary Analisis

I Didn't know what to put here

I Didn't know what to put here

I Didn't know what to put here

"Well," Annemarie said slowly, "now I think that all of Denmark must be bodyguard for the Jews, as well." (page 25).

They would be fighting every time a German was taking something from a Jew, or if someone was being hurt the bodyguard would do it back to the German. Another example would be if they closed a shop they would give them the shop back to the owner.

(1) At the end of chapter 3 I think that she felt tentative of what to choose would she die for a Jew? Or wouldn't she? Before Ellen and Annemarie's Dad told Annemarie that Ellen was a Jew, she didn't feel like she would die for a Jew, so she didn't feel like if something happens to a Jew that someone in her family would stand up for them. Then after she got told that Ellen was a Jew, she felt very different. She knew that if someone asked if she would die for a Jew, she would think about Ellen and say yes.

We just read about Ellen's parents coming to Uncle Henrik's house

Therefore I think that they will be staying at Uncle Henrik's house before the German solders go back to Germany, so they can be safe , and go home when the German solders lea

We just read that Mama took the Rosens to Uncle Henrik’s boat so that they could go to Sweden so that they won’t get caught by the Nazis and get taken prisoners or worse, killed. We also read that Mr. Rosen fell and he dropped the package that Peter gave him.

Therefore I predict that the package has Ellen’s Star of David that Annmarie ripped of Ellen’s neck, and broke but in the package it’s fixed. I also predict that as Annemarie goes to give the package back to Mr. Rosen that she will get caught by Nazi’s, and they will ask what’s in the basket, and she will show them that there is “only” Cheese, Bread, and Apples, and they will ask who it’s for, and she will tell them that it’s for her father and he forgot his Cheese, Bread, and Apples.

Man Vs Man

She reached down for Kirsti's hand, but Kirsti, always stubborn, refused it and put her hands on her hips defiantly.

This sentence shows that Kirsti not agreeing with her sister to hold her hand.

Man Vs Nature

"I was very nearly here - well, maybe just halfway - when I tripped over a root and went sprawling."

This shows Man Vs Nature when Annemarie's mom trips over the root, grown out of the ground.

Man Vs society

"From the military car, they saw her running, and simply ran her down."

This shows Man Vs Society because Lise was running from a car-load of the military and they ran her down with their car.

man Vs Self

What would Kirsti do? Annemarie stamped her foot. Suddenly, to her own surprise, she began to cry.

The theme of "Number the Stars", is: Not to give up, if someone knocks you over, then just get back up again. If someone pushes you in the mud shake it off and just walk away.

I think that the theme is: if it's safe then you can tell the truth, but if you absolutely need to, then that is the time to lie.

The book shows this theme by people are lying for their own safety, and for others' safety.

Vocabulary Words

Lanky and STocky

"She was a stocky ten-year-old, unlike lanky Annemarie."(page 1)

Based on this sentence, these words are comparing the girls. It is describing their physical features, which are opposite because it uses the word "unlike."

Lanky means tall and skinny. Stocky means big and bulky.

Suffix: -y, relating to or filled with; Other words: messy, cheesy, lucky

"Wait for me!" Wailed little Kirsti, left behind, but the two little girls weren't listening.

Three years, Annemarie thought with Contempt.

Stand still. Kirsti, Annemarie ordered silently, praying that somehow the obstinate five year old would recive her message

But Annemarie heard Mama and Papa talk, sometimes that night, about the news they received that way: news of sabotage against the Nazi's bombs hidden and exploded in the factories that produced war materials, and industrial railroad lines damaged so that that the goods couldn't be transported.

She reached down for Kirsti's hand, but Kirsti, always stubborn, refused it and put her hands on her hips defiantly.

Thinking of Lise, her solemn, lovely sister, always made her sad.

It was so long a time since they had dared to used the strictly rationed electricity after dark that the light in the room seemed startling to Annemarie, watching through the slightly opened bedroom door.

She looked down, and saw that she had imprinted the Star of David into her palm.

Ellen and Annemarie smiled tentatively.
