- Issue 9: Thursday 20th June 2019
Dear Students, Parents and Carers,
This week over 300 students were assessed by the NSW Health Department Child Dental team. These students will receive a report of the assessment and invited to attend the Fairfield Hospital Dental Clinic, if necessary. We were the first school to participate in this program and I have been told that the Health Department will be providing mobile dental units which will visit schools.
This Monday will be the last day for the Homework centre this term. Over 80 students attend these sessions on Monday afternoons under the supervision of teachers who volunteer their time. The students are given support to complete their homework. I would to thank Ms Ma, Mrs Wright, Miss Sawaya, Mrs Slotwinski, Miss Butler, Miss Tran and Mrs Tate for giving up their time to help the students. Special thanks to Ms Vasquez for her co-ordination of the program.
This week, we enjoyed lots of yummy food provided by families from Stage 3 to help raise funds for special activities, such as the Year 6 Graduation activities and Stage 3 excursions. Everyone was very well fed on these days and enjoyed the wide range of food delights. Thank you to our Stage families, students and staff for their support and special thanks to Mrs Lam and Mrs Qarr for organising the event.
YEAR 1 VISITED THE POWERHOUSE MUSEUM
Our Year 1 students enjoyed a great visit to the Powerhouse Technology Museum in the city to study the different means of communication, such as photographs, books, digital media and videos. It was a long, but enjoyable day.
YEAR 5 VISIT TO CABRAMATTA HIGH SCHOOL FOR A TASTE OF HIGH SCHOOL
Over the past few weeks, our Year 5 students have participated in Language and Sports lessons taught by teachers at Cabramatta High School. These lessons are deigned to give the students a taste of high school as part of the transition at the end of Year 6. All students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and found that Cabramatta High School is an outstanding school. Thank you to the staff for supervising the students and Mr Goulter for his organisation.
ATHELTICS CARNIVAL AND K-2 SPORTS FUN DAY
This Tuesday, June 25, with weather permitting, our students will participate in a variety of athletics and sports activities. Our Years 3-6 students will travel to Fairfield for our annual Athletics Carnival to find our best runners, shot putters, long and high jumpers. This is a House competition and we ask all students to wear either their House polo shirt or House coloured clothing. Parents are very welcome to come along to watch the action. Special thanks to Mr Karantz for organising the Carnival. At the same time, our K-2 students will remain at school to participate in a range of fun sporting activities. Once again, parents are very welcome to come along and cheer on the students. Thank you to Miss Sawaya, Miss Cazzy, Mrs King, Miss Byrne, Miss Vasquez, Miss Tran and Miss Ma for organising this day.
NEW REPORT FORMAT
In Week 10, the Semester 1 report on student achievement will be distributed to families. Following a review of the effectiveness of the previous format last year, including feedback from parents at a P and C meeting and staff suggestions, a simplified and straightforward format has been designed. This new format will provide levels of achievement for a range of learning outcomes for each student, learning goals in Mathematics and English, as well as a general comment. We believe that this format will be easier for parents to understand what their child has achieved and what needs to be done to make improvement. Parents and carers are invited to provide feedback about this new format.
LAST DAY OF TERM 2 AND FIRST DAY OF TERM 3
The last of this term will be Friday, July 5 and the day for students to return next term will be Tuesday July 23.
My best wishes to you.

4Z’s Fun Day of Learning with Mrs Holloway
We had a great day of making Milo Ball treats and Elephant Toothpaste!
Cooking with 3S
Year 3 were lucky to have Mrs Holloway come to our rooms and cook Hedgehog Slice. The students learnt about kitchen safety, rules, hygiene and how to follow a procedure. The activity was a great deal of fun and tasted yummy.
The recipe is included in case you would like to make it at home.
Thank you Cabramatta Public School for your support during the Stage 3 Food Festival Fundraiser. There was a huge array of delicious food from different cultures and we hope that everyone enjoyed their meals on the day. Stage 3 would like to extend a big thank you to all parents who took the time to prepare all the food. We raised $3053.80 to go towards Year 5 and 6 activities. Your efforts are deeply appreciated.
